Ceramics by Sean Tucker

Paxson Hill Farm will host its 18th Annual Art in the Garden exhibit and sale on Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine.  Seventy-five local fine artists and fine craftspeople will present their work outdoors in Paxson Hill’s extensive gardens.  Among the numerous media presented are painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, fiber and book arts, jewelry, woodturning, and more.

This year’s featured artist is Sean Tucker, a Lambertville potter who is a familiar presence in many local arts festivals; he has been an exhibitor at Art in the Garden since 2005.  Sean is inspired by the ceramic traditions of Asia, working with raku, a technique originating in Japan and Korea; he also works in stoneware.  He prefers glazes with visual depth that seemingly interact with the shape of the pot, resulting in functional art that people can enjoyably live with daily.  Tucker considers himself a people’s potter whose venues of choice are folk festivals and art shows, and he enjoys meeting his customers.

In addition to the arts and crafts on display, The Straight Ahead Big Band will perform on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.  The band is composed of local musicians who play everything from swing and big band to rock & roll and beyond.  Also, representatives of WWFM The Classical Network will be on hand with program details, membership information, and more.

On Saturday, food trucks from Nomad Pizza and Bonjour Creperie will be available to visitors; and on Sunday, Jules Pizza and Bonjour Creperie will be on site.

Bruce Gangawer, landscape architect and owner/operator of the nursery at Paxson Hill Farm, is both the sponsor of the event and the designer of the various themed gardens.  These include shade and sun areas, water features, a hobbit house, and a boxwood maze which ends in a gazebo affording a sweeping view of the surrounding countryside.  Visitors and patrons are invited to tour the gardens as well as to enjoy the artwork.

Paxson Hill Farm is located at 3265 Comfort Road, New Hope.  There is no charge for admission or parking.
