This January, the US Junior Team Sweep Winter Camp at Sarasota Crew’s facilities invited 18 world-class rowers to attend, including Upper Makefield's Andrew Greubel. Greubel, now a high school senior at St. Joseph's Prep, was on the list for a second year in the row, having rowed for the US Junior National team in Hamburg, Germany over the summer.

Excellence in athletics appears to run through the Greubel family's veins; Andrew is the younger brother to Olympic bronze medalist Jamie Greubel. Jamie shared her enthusiasm for her little brother's accomplishments on her Team USA blog two years ago:

“My brother Andrew…recently switched from playing baseball to rowing crew. With less than two years of experience, he is already one of the strongest and best rowers at his competitive high school, St. Joe’s Prep in Philadelphia. He has been invited to join the U.S. Rowing Junior National High Performance camp this summer, and told me that he wants to go to the Olympics too! Wow! It feels like only yesterday that I was going with my Dad to pick Andrew up from daycare, and now he is asking me about protein, my training, and how much I can squat. Where did the time go? I hope that I can continue to inspire Andrew to train for the Olympics as I try to reach the same goal.”

And Andrew is working hard to follow in Jamie's footsteps. He rows varsity 8 boat for St. Joe's Prep and finished the past season strong at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston to guarantee next year's varsity 8 boat a spot. He hopes to win an Olympic medal in the future.
