Bar at Anton's at the Swan

On a cold winter night, there are few things I'd rather be doing than sitting next to a toasty fire, enjoying a tasty dish with a glass of red wine in hand. If that sounds like your kind of night, Anton's at the Swan is the perfect place to visit. On an unassuming corner off the main drag in Lambertville, Anton's occupies the ground floor of the stately old Swan Hotel.

The restaurant is a white-table cloth, high-end establishment run by Chef & owner Chris Connors who fashions his monthly menu with inventive dishes compiled by seasonal ingredients. Connors took ownership of the business back in September of 2001, and since then, has created a distinctive “innovative American Cuisine” that when possible utilizes local ingredients. On his website, Connors expresses his appreciation for both the local foodie and farm communities:

“We have a lot to be proud of, all the synergy of nations. We're blessed with the farm country, too, and I have a great relationship with local resources. It's an exciting place to be a chef. It's almost a Zen balance-using ingredients that grow around you, then serving them back to residents.”

Butternut Squash Risotto from Anton's at the Swan

When we visited Anton's a couple weeks back, we opted for a more casual evening in their bar area, which also offers a small eclectic but reasonably priced menu. In addition to soups & sandwiches, the bar menu includes a couple seasonal steals such as the $10 butternut squash risotto that I immensely enjoyed. In addition, Anton's offers a full range of espresso drinks and a selection of homemade desserts that can satisfy any sweet tooth.

Anton's distinct, but inviting atmosphere is what sets it apart. Reminiscent of a cozy ski-lodge, the large space is warmed by a roaring fireplace. A small bar, about a dozen small tables, and a few large chairs and couches bring comfortable functionality to the space. Vintage decorations- including a miniature model of Independence Hall, old magazine clippings, and presidential portraits- transports visitors into unique environment, away from their daily troubles. When the weather warms, escape to Anton's picturesque private patio, which is also completely visible from indoors through a wall of windows.

So while unfortunately we can't do much about the cold weather ahead, we can take solace in escaping for just a few hours at Anton's.

There is a lot to take in while relaxing on the couch at Anton's
