Chocolate dipped and traditional biscotti

While investigating topics for our Columbus Day Italian-themed week on Bucks Happening, we were thrilled to find out about Bucks County Biscotti. It all started out by having a small stand at the Doylestown Farmers Market back in 1990. Now it is a supplier to gourmet establishments in over four different states. Bucks County Biscotti was built from the ground up by husband and wife, Craig Silbert and Karen Riley. After living in multiple states on the east coast, they found themselves most happy when they moved to Doylestown. From there they lived in Pipersville and now in Hilltown.

They can remember back when they used a two rack household oven to bake, now they used a 40 rack industrial size oven. But everything is still old world style, using the finest ingredients and hand cutting the biscotti. They have seven flavors including the traditional anise almond, espresso chocolate chip, ginger cherry and even seasonal flavors such as pumpkin pecan. Luckily for me, I had the chance to not only sit down with Craig and Karen but I also got a tour of the bakery!

As soon as I walked into the bakery I could smell the goodness and nothing was even in the oven. Bucks County Biscotti is located on an old dairy farm in Hilltown. The house and bakery are beautiful – a typical Bucks County stone farm house. Craig talked about how much of an honor it was to live there and that the company was really a tribute to the area. Their biscotti can be found in local stores such as House of Coffee and Casa Casale in Peddler's Village. Most of their business is through wholesale, where they deliver to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Manhattan, Princeton and Washington DC. One week they bake, and one week they deliver. Can you believe Craig and Karen do this all on their own?

Besides wholesale orders, they also handle a number of personal orders for birthdays, holidays, parties or just to dip in your own coffee! Each of their boxes have an assortment of flavors of your choice and can be shipped anywhere within the United States. You can check out their products online or call 215-453-6793 to order.

But if you are looking for a quick way to grab some for yourself, there is a mini stand right outside of their house which is self serve. Simply pull up, grab what you would like, put your money in the box and go! It is one of the easiest ways to enjoy a great low calorie snack to dunk in your coffee. Craig and Karen often see a line of cars outside waiting to get a bundle for only five dollars!

This is what is so great about their biscotti – it is inexpensive and lasts up to 60 days! It will last even longer if kept in the freezer. They were gracious enough to let me take some home to sample. Of course, I had to try one of each kind they gave me. I had the traditional, chocolate dipped and cranberry walnut. All of them were delicious by themselves.

They strive for quality over quantity and this really shows through the taste and presentation. Bucks County Biscotti is happy right where it is in Hilltown and has no plans of moving into a “big” business. Craig and Karen love working and residing out of their Bucks County home.

Bucks County Biscotti is located at 10 West Creamery Road in Hilltown. Their mini stand outside their house is always open for grab and go biscotti. You can also follow Bucks County Biscotti on Facebook.
