A few weeks back, we asked the question “What has been the biggest lesson you've learned as a Bucks County business?”  Check out a few of our favorite responses below!

Ryan Taft from Catalyst Marketers in Chalfont, PA

The biggest lesson I learned since starting Catalyst Marketers back in June of 2009 is that the Internet has created an opportunity never before available to small business owners. It’s easier and more cost effective than ever before in history for small businesses to reach customers and prospective customers, build relationships with those folks, and eventually drive new sales. Accelerated growth is right around the corner for small businesses if they simply take advantage of all of the great tools that the Internet provides. Through writing a blog and using social networks like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, we have been able to successfully grow our business during one of the toughest economic periods in U.S. history. The tools are out there, hopefully business owners will start taking advantage of them on a more regular basis. Those that do will reap numerous benefits compared to those who do not.

LISTEN to your customers.

I have a marketing business.  One of my clients had the opportunity to have the small business spotlight at 3rd Federal Bank in Doylestown.   We went to view the space.

I mentioned to him that we really needed to draw attention, because it was in a low traffic location within the bank, although near a window.  He wondered aloud about having a full-sized cardboard likeness of himself.  Because I did not discount his wacky idea, and having listened that his mother was a talented artist, “Cardboard Timmy” was born.

Now, people are going into the bank to get their pictures taken with Cardboard Timmy, and he is getting awareness for his Bucks County business, SwiftSellIt.

You can see visuals, and hear his side of the story at his blog, IwillInspireYou.com.

Harrison Kratz of Kratz PR & Management in Yardley, PA

I am NOT in the PR or Management business. I am in the connections business.  Making connections and networking correctly will take me further than any client ever will.  Each relationship brings new contacts and networks, and that is the number one thing I will take away from each professional relationship.  The larger my rolodex gets, the more I will be able to not only help myself, but my clients as well.

Another thing I've learned, social media is becoming EVERYTHING.  In PR and Entrepreneurship, one's knowledge of social media can make or break their business; especially in the early going.
