Sadly, we all know someone who's life has been changed due to cancer.  But today, June 2nd, we get to do something we rarely do when it comes to this deadly disease- celebrate! Today is National Cancer Survivor Day.

Fighting cancer takes an immense amount of strength, perseverance, and assistance. While survivors have much to celebrate, they also face extreme challenges brought on by their cancer treatments- both physically and mentally.

medical-massage1Cancer survivors in Bucks County seeking relief from the side effects of their treatements are turning to the Spa at The Cornerstone in Warrington for alternative therapeutic wellness treatments, including Medical Massages for breast cancer patients and acupuncture treatments for variety of cancer-related aches and pains.

While a massage is often viewed as a luxury experience, doctors are increasingly referring clients to spas that specialize in medical massages, such as Cornerstone. Therapeutic massage assists with serious medical conditions like arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, anxiety, orthopedic problems, migraines, and yes, cancer.

Massage goes hand in hand with physical therapy or personal training, with techniques that enhance this merger of modalities include PNF stretching, trigger point therapy and deep tissue.

About Mastectomy Massages

For the person living with breast cancer, a gentle touch can provide relief from pain and stress and improve quality of life. It will give a boost to the immune system and relieve the tension stored in tight muscles. Mastectomy Massage can aid in alleviating post-operative pain and discomfort, reduce swelling, improve circulation and assist in the healing of scar tissue. This includes lymphatic drainage, reiki and reflexology.

Licensed and Nationally Certified Massage Therapist Melissa Faith-Baun offers Mastectomy Massages at The Spa at Cornerstone Clubs.  She studied Mastectomy Massages under Cheryl Chapman, who is an RN, Certified Holistic Nurse Practitioner and Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and a National Certification Board approved continuing education provider and instructor for Cancer Massage.

 Acupuncture

According to the National Cancer Institute, there is strong evidence from clinical trials that acupuncture relieves nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy as well as a variety of other cancer-related symptoms. The Spa at Cornerstone now offers private sessions as well as more cost effective group acupuncture sessions.

On behalf of Bucks Happening, Cornerstone Clubs, and the entire community, congratulations to all of the courageous cancer survivors of Bucks County!
