When a remake of the 1980s cult-classic, Footloose, hit the theaters last year, few would guess that the film's plot would hit so close to home within our community just a few months later. A grassroots movement is gaining support on various social media outlets, proposing that Bucks County should ban “loud” music and dancing at establishments throughout Bucks County after 8pm.

“We live in Bucks County because we want to live a quiet and calm lifestyle,” one resident explains, “If kids want to party, they can go into Philadelphia or New York, just not in my backyard.”

One proponent of the bill who goes by the Twitter name “newtownlifer” tweeted, “What ppl today call dancing is disgusting.  Keep it on #MTV #baninbucks”

Others have expressed fear that such a movement would hurt Bucks County's growing popularity as a tourist destination. One New Hope business owner that we spoke to passionately argued, “In today's economy, we can't give people any reason to second-guess going out in Bucks County. A law like this would devastate many businesses.”

With a New Jersey middle school recently banning hugging and towns like Pound, Virginia still enforcing similar laws, will Bucks County be next?
