Long before joining The Monkees, Peter Tork was a well-respected musician in the burgeoning 60s Village folk and blues scene playing with the likes of Steven Stills and John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas. Peter's gift for playing a plethora of instruments (bass, guitar, keyboard, banjo and French horn) generated high demand for his services as a sideman and back-up artist. Jimi Hendrix jammed with Peter on several occasions, calling him “the most talented Monkee.” Shoe Suede Blues delivers a heartfelt soulful uplifting mixture of original and classic rock and blues plus traditional and new versions of Monkees hits.

Last year, whether it was stroll in the park, a brisk walk, or a competition to be the fastest runner, the first annual I Run For Food, sponsored by Shi Ami, received over 300 registrants! This year, we hope to be even bigger. As a result of our generous sponsors in conjunction with other program supporters, this all volunteer event netted over $6,500. Runners of all ages are welcome. A family-oriented art festival that will include fun art activities for the whole family, the art show and sale, musical entertainment and a family-friendly barbeque.  One hundred original works of art donated by 30+ area artists will be on display and up for sale.  This unique show conceals the artists’ identities until after the artwork is sold.  Each piece is signed on the back of the canvas so the buyer only learns of its creator after it has been purchased.  Each piece will be priced at $50.00.  This makes the artwork affordable and fun to collect.
