Back by popular demand, the “A Cappella at the Rock” festival returns to Council Rock High School North in Newtown, PA on Saturday March 12th at 7:30 pm. Last year’s sold out crowd was blown away by performances by the best High School groups in the area, followed by a feature performance by the internationally known a cappella group, The House Jacks, whose members hail from NBC’s The Sing Off and the hit a cappella movie franchise, Pitch Perfect.
The House Jacks are “the original rock band without instruments”. The band’s pioneering innovations laid the groundwork for the current a cappella renaissance and millions of people have listened to them as the sound of The Sing-Off, NBC’s hit live a cappella competition. The House Jacks have performed internationally and appeared in Rolling Stone, on CNN and Monday Night Football (ESPN). The New York Times calls their vocal percussion “Astonishingly precise!” and San Francisco Magazine says “The House Jacks serve up one of the most entertaining live acts around.”
Over 200 students from Council Rock, Central Bucks, Palisades, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Burlington and Lancaster will participate in music clinics with members of the House Jacks on subjects from vocal percussion and improvisation to solo delivery and mic technique and then will come together to compete for awards in the evening festival concert event. “This is an amazing experience for the students and we are so excited to be hosting again this year” says Jared Williams, Director of Choral Music at Council Rock North. “The response from the community has been incredible and we expect to sell out all 1,300 seats again this year. It’s an exciting and unique evening of entertainment that you just can’t find anywhere else!”
Featured school groups include: Allen Cappella from William Allen High School in Allentown, PHS Madrigal Singers from Palisades High School, Rush Arts Chamber Singers from Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, Sha Cappella from Shawnee High School in Burlington, NJ, South Vocal Ensemble from Council Rock High School South, Southside A Cappella from Central Bucks High School South, String Theory Singers from the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School, The Vocal Vikings from Atlantic City High School, Vox Pop from Lancaster Catholic High School, and Rhythm of the Rock and NorthVoice both from Council Rock High School North.
