Thanks to the generous contributions of CentralBucks residents, Central Bucks Family YMCA’s Community Support Campaign has raised over $324,000 to help the Y continue to give its members and neighbors opportunities to learn, grow and thrive! Gifts to Central Bucks Family YMCA stay in ourcommunity, directly supporting and positively impacting residents right here in Bucks County.

As a result of last year’s campaign, the Y was able to give:

– 286 kids a safe place to learn & build confidence in summer camp

– 390 memberships for 181 families, locals who can now take advantage of the many services & programs provided by the Y

Central Bucks Family YMCA launched the Community Support Campaign on September 22, 2011 with a goal of raising $308,000 as well as awareness among its members and the community thatnew opportunities and programs at the Y can only happen in partnership with our donors. This week, on November 17, the campaign came to conclusion having exceeded the original goal by nearly $17,000. All funds will enable the Y to remove barriers – financial, social or any other kind of obstacle – for anyone seeking to live a healthier, more connected and balanced life by joining the Y and it’s programs.

This year, Central Bucks Family YMCA is aiming to do more to help the community. In response to the burgeoning challenge of childhood obesity, the Y opened its doors to all area 7th graders free of charge. To date, more than 300 students have joined the 7th Grade Initiative, participating in a broad variety of activities ranging from cooking classes to youth governmentclubs to age-appropriate Zumba. At a critical developmental juncture in their lives, these area adolescents have a safe, fun and healthy place to come and connect with their peers.

In 2012, the Y will roll-out out their Cancer Initiative Program, providing memberships andsupport to individuals and families dealing with cancer. Last spring, the Y began talking with local hospitals, doctors and medical experts about working together to bring a cancer wellnessprogram to our community. The Y will partner with Fox Chase Cancer Center to provide awellness program focusing on cancer patients and their families. Moreover, the Y is working hand-in-hand with the broader medical community to develop this program.

As one of the leading nonprofits for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, Central Bucks Family YMCA depends on financial gifts to do its vital work so that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has an opportunity to receive the support and guidance to learn, grow and thrive. The Y believes that when people have a place to feel welcome, have someone to encourage them, and opportunities to participate in activities that interest them, they are more likely to identify and achieve their personal goals.
