Cinco de Mayo is annually observed on May 5 as a celebration of Mexico's victory over France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Frankly, it’s more widely celebrated in the United States than it is in Mexico, but these days, we’re all about celebrating anything we can! PLUS, it falls on a Tuesday this year. Cinco de Mayo AND Taco Tuesday?! Fiesta time!

So even though you might not be able to head to your favorite Mexican spot to enjoy margaritas with your friends, here are some ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at home this year.

El Barrio Cantina & Tequila Bar is our 2020 Happening List Winner for Best Mexican Food, so of course they're a great spot to get your curbside pickup! (They also have a bottle shop where you can come in to purchase beer.) While they haven't announced their Cinco de Mayo specials yet, they've been teasing a huge collaboration with Triple Sun Sprits Co. for “the ultimate Cinco de Mayo margarita.” Be sure to check their Facebook page for details!

BTW, they're also selling 80% high proof hand sanitizer ($8 for 12 oz. bottle) that can be purchased in the bottle shop or online for curbside pickup.

Mill Street Cantina was one of the first local restaurants we saw that was giving away meals to families in need during this time. In fact, they were offering their Cantina Cares family packages since before they were even open to take general orders!

Now that they're also offering a limited takeout menu, they're a wonderful business to support. Choose from street tacos, burritos, and quesadillas along with the optional add-ons like fried avocado, rice and beans, housemade chips and salsa, and churros.

And don't forget their housemade sour mix to make your at-home margaritas. (Just add your favorite tequila.)

This local favorite features a menu inspired by 21 Spanish speaking countries with tacos, burritos, empanadas and more. They're open for curbside pickup and delivery through DoorDash and UberEats, and offering deals like 10 tacos for $22!

You might not think of Steam Pub for Mexican food, but they actually have quite a few Mexican-inspired dishes on the menu. Choose from loaded nachos, chicken quesadilla, California Crab Taco, Shrimp Tacos, Chipotle Chicken Tacos or Pulled Pork Tacos, or Elwoods Fish Tacos. Steam Pub's takeout hours are daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Full menu is available for takeout or delivery through DoorDash and Grubhub.
