docbakersWhen you walk into this place, it just SMELLS healthy! Most of you who frequent Doylestown may have already discovered Doc Bakers, who had their grand opening in March. It is located at the newly re-opened Doylestown Inn and features raw, vegan foods. In fact, their menu is quite extensive! There are juices, twists, teas, smoothies, wraps, sandwiches, dessert, and more. All of their food is made fresh when you order.

With so many hoagies, burgers, and pizza nearby in Doylestown, it was welcomed news to hear that “a new juice bar” was opening in town.

I stopped in for lunch with some co-workers and immediately felt good about my decision. The store is clean and fresh. A very friendly staff member greeted us when we walked in and, upon seeing our confused faces, graciously explained the ordering process.

After reviewing the menu, you type your name into an iPad, mounted at the front counter. You then select what you’d like, swipe your card or pay cash, and then wait for your name to be called. I got an Apple Almond Spinach Wheat Wrap, an OM inLOVE juice, and a wheatgrass shot. Yes, a wheatgrass shot.

Wheatgrass is relatively new to me. A friend of mine told me about it and how much she liked it, so when I saw these “shots” offered, I just had to try. In fact, the grass is part of the décor of Doc Bakers!

My wrap was very tasty and filling, but my co-worker was convinced that his Fiesta wrap was better. For those who like more of a flavor burst, the Fiesta wrap is a great place to start.

My juice was green and delicious. It had a sweet ginger bite to it and was gone too fast! And the wheatgrass shot? It showed up, all green in a little tube. I looked at it skeptically. Cheers!

docbakerjuice“Well, what do you think?” A smiling staff member eagerly asked me, as I finished the shot.

“You know, it’s pretty good!” I said, surprisingly, “It tastes a lot like….” I paused trying to think of what this wheatgrass taste reminded me of and then it hit me, “Sugar snap pea shells!”

The staff member laughed and said he hadn’t heard that one before, but also explained that their wheatgrass was “sweeter” than most. Important to note, though, you definitely taste grass at first, but afterwards you’re left with a sweet taste in your mouth.

“Think you’ll get it again?” he asked.

“Definitely,” I replied. This place couldn’t have opened at a better time.
