The first time I was on a plane I was 7 years old on my way to Jamaica with my family.  I remember looking out the window, nervously anticipating my first flight.  The sound of the engines starting, the acceleration, the landing equipment retracting; it all was so exhilarating.  The seat is sucking you in as the plane begins to lift off—nervous excitement!  My most recent experience was in the spring of 2009.  I was headed to Cancun, Mexico.  Sixteen years later I still have that feeling.

I think the excitement that we feel is partly because of the mystery of flying.  For most of us, we don’t know anything about flying, yet we do it so unreserved.  It is such a different sensation.  Personally, I have always thought that the sensation of flying is the ceiling.  Well, I was very wrong.  At Doylestown Airport, the sky is the limit for anyone who wants to learn to fly.

Flight training and Pilot’s licenses are available for students of all ages.  Student pilots can begin their training at any age.  They are also permitted to fly solo after the age of 16.  For $35/hour + aircraft rental, interested parties can receive their Student Pilot’s Certificate.  In addition, a private pilot license is an option.  For those who would like to take flying more seriously as an occupation or just a serious hobby this might be the way to go.  All in all, this is definitely something that I would love to experience once I graduate.  As for now, I’ll keep enjoying the mystery and enjoyment of passenger seating.
