As part of The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program Digging Deeper series, “Drama & Drainage – The Gardens at Mill Fleurs.” Join gardener, furniture designer, and owner of Tiffany Perennials, Barbara Tiffany, for a special tour through her extraordinary garden, which she has been cultivating for twenty-five years. The Gardens at Mill Fleurs, a 1742 grist mill on the often-raging Tohickon Creek, are set into massive rock outcroppings and steep woodland slopes. The site features drama and drainage—everything else is pure challenge. Barbara is a hopeless collector of any plant family that thrives in shade, anything with a green or black flower, or any plant she hasn’t seen before in Zone 6. Plants are organized by color families: all the plants in a given area have either foliage or flowers of the same color. Creating a landscape that will appeal to people who might be casual gardeners out of all these collections is a welcome challenge. Registration is required and space is limited. See www.opendaysprogram.org or call The Garden Conservancy toll-free weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, 1-888-842-2442.
