When Swing Was King (Benny Goodman Tribute)
May 13 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm| $21.50 – $30
Known as the King Of Swing, Benny Goodman’s iconic Big Band recordings of the 1930s and 40s are instantly recognizable and still popular today. Benny also featured a small band that could play it hot on blazing on tunes like “Slipped Disc” and “Airmail Special” as well as delicate on numbers like “Memories Of You.” This trailblazing group was considered the first openly integrated band. In this concert, Paul Cosentino and The Boilermaker Jazz Band bring the energy and delicate swing of the small band performing some of their best known material plus some of your favorite Goodman Big Band melodies. Jennifer McNulty brings you selections by Benny’s Gals, including hits by Peggy Lee, Liltin’ Martha Tilton and the Helen’s – Ward and Forrest.
