season-of-charity-bucks-county
Between getting all of your shopping done, wrapping up gifts, decorating your home, and finalizing plans, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. For the Bucks County residents living below the poverty line, the holiday season looks much different. Many of the less fortunate families in our area are more focused on where there next meal is coming from, and not which type of toys are best to give. For this and many other reasons, the holidays are a great time to give to those less fortunate. Below are just a few of the great local charities in Bucks County to donate to this holiday season.

Write letters to our military. The Red Cross has put together a great program, Holiday Mail for Heroes. This program allows you to write to people in service, veterans, and their families, thanking them for their sacrifice. Many of these people have been deployed for the holidays, or are confined to hospitals throughout the season due to combat injuries. A simple thank you note can go a long way, especially during the holidays.

Donate old toys. Before the holidays arrive, have your child go through their toys to find some to donate. Be sure to check for toys they may have outgrown or often neglect. Upper Bucks County Toys for Tots is a great local program that collects thousands of old toys every year for the less fortunate children in Bucks County. Check their website for a list of drop-off locations.

Make a clothing donation. From winter coats and jackets, to boots, to warm sweaters and holiday dresses, table linens and bed sheets, Purple Heart accepts clothing of all sizes and styles. You can call to schedule a pick up or check their website for a Green Drop location near you.

Give someone a fresh start. Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County has a number of opportunities for you and your family to give back during the holiday season. Habitat strives to build affordable homes and revitalize communities for those less fortunate in the Bucks County area. Whether you wish to donate money or time to building one of these sustainable homes, reach out to Habitat for Humanity to find out how you can help.

Donate canned goods. Hundreds of families in the Bucks County area rely on food banks to feed their loved ones. Get your whole family involved and have everyone chip in canned goods to donate to these families. Find a local food pantry to donate to in Bucks County and share the warmth of a holiday meal this season.

Whether you choose to donate time or money, give to those less fortunate this holiday season. Make the holidays more meaningful this year and spread the joy of the holidays by giving back!
