A little over a year ago, the highly anticipated Green Parrot Bar & Restaurant opened in the newly constructed shops at the former Goodnoe's location in Newtown. With a bar fit for the most enthusiastic of sports fans (they have over 20 flat screen HD TVs & play just about any athletic event you could want to watch) and a gorgeous outdoor patio, the Green Parrot has been bustling ever since.
With my boyfriend being a San Francisco 49ers fan, we already knew that Green Parrot was a great place to catch a game, one of the few local bars with NFL Sunday Ticket. We would stop in on Sunday, grab a few appetizers & a couple of beers, yell at the TV a bit, and call it a day. However, after a couple of recent lunch visits to the Green Parrot, I find myself thinking much more about the food than about the upcoming football season!
At my first lunch event, I ordered quesadillas, which arrived packed with healthy beans, just the right amount of cheese, and fresh salsa. The best part was- it wasn't greasy at all. On my next trip, I ventured to try the Sonoma Flatbread – a heaping salad atop crispy flatbread. On both occasions, I was impressed with the fresh, wholesome food options that went well beyond average bar food.
Hopefully the discovery of these fresh & healthy dishes will keep me away from all of the Sunday football wings! (but seriously- who am I kidding?)
