We all know that there are fantastic restaurants, adorable boutiques, and state-of-the-art fitness centers in Newtown, but for quite some time, there has been a gaping hole in the health food department.  Health-conscious locals have even rallied over the past few years in an attempt to woo Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe's to set up shop in town. Well, there is no doubt that those same people are now rejoicing over the opening of Greenstraw Smoothies on Sycamore Street (across from the Green Parrot).

Greenstraw's super wholesome menu includes smoothies; fresh juices (including wheatgrass); locally roasted, organic and fair trade coffee; healthy snacks like locally made hummus & veggies; and guiltless desserts. Their website boasts of a menu with no gmo's, no hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup, and only only whole, nutritious, and organic-when-possible…yum!

And this menu goes way beyond your average smoothie bar. Their “Green Smoothie” options include the decadent Tres Bayas Verde with almond milk, apple juice, banana, strawberries, blueberries, rasperries, greens, and ice or the tropical Mango Tree with coconut milk, mango juice, banana mango, pineapple, greens, and ice.

In addition, there is an entirely different menu of tasty specialty smoothie options like the “Study Helper”, “Common Cold Container”, and “Before the Burn”. Plus, vegans and those allergic to lactose will be happy to hear that many of these recipes are made using almond or coconut milk rather than dairy.

We recently stopped in to taste test one of their fresh-squeezed juices. When kale, celery, and apple taste this good, you know Greenstraw is the real deal!
