The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical “Hair”, often hailed as the father of modern rock musicals, is up next at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre. Set for 6 performances, “Hair” will be performed from July 21 through July 30, 2017 with performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 pm.
Set in the 1960s,”Hair” recaptures a time that may have been decades ago, but still resonates in today's society. The musical tells the story of the “tribe”, a group of politically active, long-haired hippies living a bohemian life in New York City. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives and their ongoing rebellion against the Vietnam War draft, their conservative parents and society. Due to language and sexual themes that are portrayed in the production, “Hair” is suggested for mature audiences.
With songs that entered America's popular songbook like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning, Starshine,” “Easy to be Hard,” and “Let the Sunshine In,” Featured in the cast of “Hair” is Matthew Robertson of Yardley, Pa. as Claude and Kaitlin Waldron as Sheila from Woodbridge, N.J. The production is directed Richard Amelius who returns to the Open Air Theatre after directing past Open Air productions of “Moon over Buffalo” and “The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kander & Eb” during the 2010 season and “Once Upon A Mattress” during the 2011 season.
The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre production of “Hair” will be performed on Friday, July 21, Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 at 7:30. The musical returns for a second weekend of performances on July 28, 29 and 30. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 12 and under). Tickets can always be purchased at the Open Air Theatre Box Office prior to the performance. Group discounts are available.
