Rachel Brown- A Kid In The Kitchen

When Rachel Brown's father was diagnosed with FSH Dystrophy, everyday tasks like cooking for his family of three became challenging.

His daughter, 12 year-old Rachel of Buckingham, PA, took it upon herself to learn to cook and has since become the primary cook in the house. Since Rachel was little, she always loved to spend time in the kitchen with her father.  As her father's abilities diminished, she stepped up to immerse herself in the cooking world, combining a passion for traveling, food and love for her family as she plans the weekly menus, goes with her mother to shop for the best local ingredients and makes her family and guests wonderful meals.

And we're not talking about just boiling water for pasta here. Rachel's favorite dish cooked to date has been Crawfish Etouffee. She even utilizes local ingredients from their own backyard garden.

To share her journey, Rachel started a blog called “Rachel Brown Cooks” where she compiles recipes to share with the world.

Rachel's ability to take something that was born out of necessity and turn it into a passion is a lesson that many people well beyond her age could learn from.

Way to go Rachel!
