Upon arriving at Dr. Buinewicz's offices in Buckingham, I relaxed into their spacious conference room, eager to meet the woman behind one of the premier medical spas in Bucks County.  The environment was both chic and cozy, a welcome setting to those looking to embrace wellness and beauty.

For over twenty years, Annie Buinewicz has been practicing medicine, with many of those years spent building Buinewicz Plastic Surgery and Le Medspa which she operates alongside her husband in both Buckingham and Flemington. As part of our March Happening Women series, we sat down with Annie to find out about her 24 years of experience in medicine, why she chose to specialize in cosmetics, and what it's been like to build a business while raising three boys.

BH: I understand that you started off your career as a Medical Director at a major pharmaceutical company.  What inspired you to make the transition to work with a local cosmetic enhancement business?

AB: Well, professionally, I loved the idea of making people feel better about themselves.  Bucks County isn't Beverly Hills; our patients are often receiving procedures that have a major impact on their lives- acne treatment for the self-conscious teenager, rhinoplasty for a young adult who never had a broken nose properly set, Ulthera therapy to help an older executive gain confidence before a big interview.

Personally, work balance became increasingly important to me as we expanded our family.  A small business environment allowed me greater flexibility to raise our three boys.

BH: I think many women can identify with both of those goals. So once you made the leap to Le Medspa, what has been your key to success in running the business?

AB: A great staff makes for a great practice, and we spent time finding those key people. We're incredibly lucky to have an amazing staff that makes the operations at Le Med Spa seamless, which helps our patients feel comfortable.

BH: It's becoming increasingly popular for people to consider cosmetic enhancements.  What is your approach to a new patient who comes into see you about a procedure?

AB: Most people who book appointments with us have done their homework, but it's important for us to advise them in a way that meets their goals but also best contributes to their overall wellness.

I believe in caring for the whole person, with the primary focus on wellness and preventative medicine as the avenue to achieve “the best possible you”. I use a variety of practices, including nutrition, physical fitness, and behavioral wellness, to help a patient set goals.  It is critical to treat the whole patient and not focus on a specific issue to achieve the best long term outcome, whether that be general wellness and health or addressing certain physical issues.

BH: So when people are getting evaluated, what sort of procedures and services are they seeking?

AB:  We have dozens of services including skin care (injectables , treatments and product recommendations), cellupulse (cellulite reduction), dermasweep (microdermabrasion with infusion) treatments, laser hair removal, and Botox injections, as well as surgical procedures.

Currently, a new non-surgical face lift called Ultherapy is gaining popularity along with a treatment called Liposonix, which destroys fat cells; it can actually help you lose a full inch of fat in 90 days.

BH: So in between treating patients, running a business, and raising your kids, does your business find time to connect with the community? Are you involved in any local organizations?

AB: Yes- it's really important to us to connect with the community, both personally and professional. Internally at Buinewicz Plastic Surgery and Le Medspa, we connect with the community in a variety of ways. First, we hold events at our offices to help educate the community on various services and procedures, such as the upcoming Beach Body seminar, which will be held on April 17th.

We also just began the Buinewisz Breast Cancer Support group, which was inspired by some of our patients who were seeking a more intimate support group to lean on during their battles with breast cancer.  Starting in May, we'll be holding a meeting at our offices on the first Tuesday of every month.

Personally, I'm also involved in Doylestown's Network Now as well as the Hepatitis B Foundation in Doylestown.

BH: Well, it certainly makes sense why you just won the most HAPPENING Cosmetic Surgery business in the 2012 Happening List contest! Congratulations on your continued success.
