holiday activities

The holidays are here- beautifully trimmed trees, sparkling lights…and a house full of excited kids for two weeks! Don't stress. Here are some fun ways to keep the kids entertained throughout their holiday vacation:

Nut_ImageSee a show: With Bucks County's rich cultural offerings and convenient location to major metropolitans, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a show with the family. It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Show is playing again at the Bucks County Playhouse. The Bristol Riverside theater tradition continues with An American Christmas Songbook. Or make it a full day outing with George Balanchine's The Nutcracker™ at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia or the Christmas Spectacular at Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Explore the beautiful holiday sites of Bucks County: Walk through Peddler's Village Grand Illumination and take the kids to see the delicious gingerbread house display. Visit the Winter Wonderland at Fonthill Castle in Doylestown through January 6th to see the castle decorated for the season with themed trees and Victorian decorations and greens throughout. Or stroll through the Bucks County Visitors Center 10TH Annual Holiday Treefest.

Bake: Whether you're making holiday cookies or tackling a homemade pizza, cooking with the kids is a fun and productive way to spend a cold day.

Play a game: Make lasting family memories by starting a new game night tradition. Whether you're going old school with Monopoly, enjoying a new favorite like Apples to Apples, or even participating in a family Wi Nintendo dance battle, the important thing is to do it together! Here are the Starter Mom's favorite family games.

Check out your local library: There's this great place where you can rent books, videos, and computers…for free! They even host tons of cool events. Check out your local public library.

Host a Dance Party: Invite some of your kid's friends over to the house, and make a playlist of their
favorite songs. Then, let them dance 'til they drop! All you'll have to do is provide drinks and snacks.

Arrange an arts and craft project: Pick up a canvas at the local art store or a Gingerbread House kit to give the kids something creative to occupy their time.

Challenge the kids to put up a show: Let your kids be inspired by their favorite shows, books, and movies or even write their own script. Urge them to direct and perform a show for the family at the end of vacation. Older kids can even video tape and edit their creation for a long last holiday memento.

Happy holidays!
