A trend that continues in Bucks County and across the country is the fact that kitchens play a vital role in the home.  A well-designed kitchen adds both function and value.  Consistently year after year, the number one room homeowners invest in to remodel is the kitchen.  Baby boomers and millennials alike appreciate good quality and good value.  And with the influx of both buying homes in Bucks County, you can bet they will take notice of the kitchens.  Whether you are looking to buy, sell, or remodel your home, here are the hottest new trends in kitchen design today.

Bold Lighting Fixtures

Light fixtures come is so many shapes, styles, and colors.  The current trend is to make a bold statement with lighting.  Choose fixtures with antique mirrored glass or hand bench arching forms to add an artisanal touch to your seating area.  Or choose a large, oversized fixture to make a bold statement.  These can be bold in color, or just in the sheer size of the lighting.  If you like the look of a metal finish, feel free to mix your metals.  Bronze, gold tones, and even brass are trending this year.  The industrial look continues to grow in popularity too.  Use mixed metal light fixtures with steel accents and knobs to get this look. The current trend is the bolder the better when it comes to lighting.

Colorful Apron Sinks

Apron sinks, also known as farmhouse sinks, continue to gain popularity in recent years.  This style of sink has actually been around since the late 17th century.  However, today’s apron sinks have their own unique style that is very 21st century.  This sink is both functional and stylish and now comes in so many options.  While traditional white ceramic is available and still popular, new this year are big, colorful styles.  You can choose a sleek stainless steel sink to add a modern element to a traditional design.  Or, for a more vintage look, choose a sink in a color such as blue or red.  With so many new options, it doesn't look like apron sinks popularity will slow down anytime soon.

Quartz Countertops

While fairly new to the countertop scene, quartz continues to gain momentum as a popular trend in kitchen design.  They are made of a dense, non-porous material that is stain and bacteria resistant.  Quartz is low-maintenance and very easy to clean.  And because this product is engineered by combining 95 percent ground natural quartz with five percent polymer resin, the color options are virtually endless.  No wonder this has become such a popular and fast growing trend.

Soft muted Colors

Kitchen color palates change so often it is hard to keep up.  However, this trend just might stay around awhile.  Where lighting, sinks, and countertops have gone bold and colorful, cabinets and walls have trended to the softer side.  This is in part to balance the boldness of other kitchen elements.  A popular term these days is that “gray is the new white”.  And you will see this throughout the latest trendy kitchens.  Soft gray cabinets are one of the hottest new trends today.

Are These Trends Available in Homes in Bucks County?

You can find all of these design elements in homes throughout the county.  Many of the newly built homes in the area are adding these design features.  And if you are building from the ground up, you can choose which features you prefer in your home.  If you are in the market for an older home, many recently remodeled kitchens include new trending design elements.  Or if you are someone who enjoys a “project” look for a kitchen space where you can bring in these features yourself.  With so many choices out there, there is no question you can find or create a kitchen space that is right for you and your family.
