Ahh, Labor Day! Sure it is nice to get a day off of work but it also marks the end of one hot summer season. Of course Bucks County always holds some of the best events in the area for the holiday weekend. Say goodbye to summer with a bang by attending some of these fun Labor Day Happenings around Bucks County.

Lower Bucks

New Hope Fireworks, Friday, September 2nd,: If you haven't seen the fireworks yet, you have a few more weekends to get to New Hope for the big show! (they've been extended into September due to rain cancellations throughout the summer).  A spectacle of lights over the Delaware River takes place at 9:30pm on Friday nights. Orchestrated by Garden State Fireworks, a glittering ten-minute firework show will illuminate the sky over the Delaware River for the summer season. In addition, most retail businesses on both sides of the river will stay open late. The fireworks displays will take place, at the same launch site each week, about 500 feet south of the New Hope Lambertville Free Bridge, about 500 feet offshore on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware river. In the case of inclement weather, please check the website by 12 noon on Friday's for possible cancellations.

Shady Brook Farm Summer Wine Concert Series, Friday, September 2nd, Newtown, PA: This is the last of the summer! Enjoy crackers, cheese, chips and dips from the Farm market or enjoy a burger or hot dog from the grill. Wine is sold by the glass or by the bottle. You can also enjoy a wine tasting by Rose Bank Winery.

Sesame Place BBQ & Fireworks, Sunday, September 4th, 10am-8:30pm: Come celebrate Labor Day with all your favorite Sesame Street friends at Big Bird’s Riverside Pavilion. Dinner is from 7:30-8:30pm. Dinner prices are adult $24 and children (ages 2-11) $16. Menu includes BBQ chicken, smoked beef brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, mac n’ cheese, salads, rolls, desserts and assorted Pepsi products. After a fun-filled dinner enjoy the end of summer fireworks display! The night sky will be sparkling at Sesame Place, with a spectacular fireworks show, set to a Sesame Street sound track, making the festivities on Labor Day weekend truly memorable.

Washington Crossing Park Race, Sunday September 4th, 7:30am – 10:30am: Join hundreds of athletes from the Delaware Valley and beyond for a fun filled morning of racing. All Money raised from the event will benefit two worthy causes: The Washington Crossing Visitors Center, and the Missy Flynn Fund, which provides financial aid for medical assistance to the Newtown athlete who survived a life-threatening brain aneurysm five years ago.
Bristol Lions Summer Concert, Sunday, September 4t, 6pm: Tri county band perform at Bristol Lions Park.

Morrisville Fire Company Labor Day 10k & Fun Run, Monday, September 5, 2011:  The 10k course begins at Williamson Park on North Delmorr Ave. and course maps are also available at the Morrisville Fire Company. You can mail or drop off your registration to Morrisville Fire Company – 528 North Pennsylvania Ave. – Morrisville, Pa 19067. Entry fees are $25.00 until 9/4/2011 and $30.00 on race day between 7:00am – 8:45am. The one mile fun run registration is $20.00, and all checks can be made payable to Morrisville Fire Company. Number and shirt pick up will take place at the Morrisville Fire Company on September 3, 2011 from 9:00am – 4:00pm and September 4, 2011 from 9:00am – 4:00pm.

Mayor’s Labor Day Picnic, Monday, September 5th, 9am – 5pm, Williamson Park, Morrisville: Picnic will include music, fun, games and door prizes.

Veterans Square Labor Day Concert & Ground-Breaking Ceremony, Monday, September 5th 5:30pm – 6:30pm, Veterans Square Park Corner of Edgewood and Heacock Roads Lower Makefield:  Presented by Lower Makefield Township Veterans Square Monument at Veterans Square Park Join us this Labor Day for a brief ground-breaking ceremony for the LMT Veterans Monument, followed by a concert by the Pennsbury Community Band, a 40 –member band put together by Pennsbury School District Music Coordinator Frank Mazzeio and comprised of music teachers, adults in the community, and select students.  Event includes auction off the 12 eagles painted by various members of the Artists of Yardley, snacks for sale, basket raffles to buy, and a chance to win a 50/50.. There is no admission charge, just a requested donation to go toward building the veterans monument.

Washington Crossing Open Air Theater Presents Up, Titusville: Show starts at sundown (7:22pm) Karl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and now in his 78th year he launches his house into the sky via thousands of balloons. Right after liftoff he discovers he has a stowaway in the form of an over optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. This hilarious journey takes you into a lost world with the least likely duo on Earth.

 

Central Bucks

First Friday Doylestown – Friday, September 2rd,  6pm-9:30pm.  First Friday is an evening celebrating music and visual arts.

Peddler’s Village Scarecrow Competition & Display Starting Monday, September 5th. Bigger than life scarecrow creations are displayed outdoors and compete for over $5000 in cash prizes. Be sure to vote for your favorites! These exceptional pieces of American Folk Art are displayed in the following categories: The Keystone Krow, Traditional/Whirligig, Extraordinary Contemporary, KidsOnly!, Quite The Character, and Group Crow.

Tower Tour for Families at Henry Mercer's Castle, Saturday September 3rd, 2011 – 10:30 am & 11:45 am: Children and parents explore Henry Mercer’s castle from basement to tower and learn about Mercer’s creative ideas through stories and prints. In-Gallery Demonstration Series, Saturday September 3rd, 2011 from 2-4 pm: Enrich your visit to the Mercer and the “A-Z” exhibit by dropping in on one of these programs – part of a series of special demonstrations continuing throughout the summer. In each program, a local artist, craftsperson, musician or collector brings the exhibit to life by sharing his or her expertise and creative passion.

Upper Bucks

Point Pleasant Village Designer House, Fri, September 2, 10am – 6pm, 34 River Road, Point Pleasant, PA: Tour this historic canal home and grounds to see how a team of talented designers, landscape designer, contractors, painters, and volunteers have transformed an 1850’s parsonage into a charming, livable abode. From Sept. 1 to Sept. 25, the completed designer house will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit Point Pleasant Baptist Church and the community of Point Pleasant.
