Dear food,

I’ve been with you for so many years. I can’t believe I have to walk away. You’re no good for me. I know what you’ll say, “You’ll be back. You cant live without me!!”

But please understand its not you, its me. You don’t bring out the best of me anymore. I know you’ve been there through it all, for years. The good times we celebrated, the bad times you were there to console me. Every holiday there you were front and center. My family loves you.

Now I must end it here. I must draw a line in the sand.   ITS OVER!!! You and although I love you and I always will, I am not in love with you anymore. I’ve found a new love: the girl in the mirror!!

They say when we lose one sense, the other senses are heightened; I believe this past Christmas season I fell out of love with food. I would have never said that 3 months ago but it is true. It’s the smells that get me every time. They would tempt me into another piece, another slice, just one more. I now see them as a roadblock or an obstacle trying to keep me from where I want to go, who I want to be and look like. I’ve learned I AM stronger than I though I was. I’m learning I have the ability to wrap my mind around anything if I want it bad enough. Of course, there’s always temptation. I ve learned two important lessons about temptation:

  1. It’s just a fleeting moment. I t comes and it goes. We can fight it. We cant think past it. Faith in ourselves brings results.
  1. When we do fall for temptation, we must forgive ourselves and not be angry and punish ourselves. Forgive, but don’t forget. Get back in the ring and fight the fight. Every champion was a contender at some point. We are all winners and we all get knocked down.

Although I have lost close to 30 lbs, this was primarily done though dieting thus far. While my regiment thus far hasn't included many physical workouts, I would say that everything was a mental workout: sticking to a 500 calorie intake, struggling not to take part in the holiday foods, staying on course with the skin care regime (something I never had). These were a mental workout to the highest degree. But it all paid off. My skin is becoming brighter and clearer. My clothes are looser and some are practically falling off!!! My next phase will be to return to Patty Witt at Pilate’s Bodies Studio and get to work. This is something I do not relish but I know to get to my goal I must exercise and carve out the body that I crave for.

Before I sign off on this journal, I must acknowledge all of the people who are helping me achieve my goals. In case you didn’t catch my video (see below), Dr. Luciano from Healthy Solutions and his staff are the best. They have helped me understand what will help me and what will hinder my weight loss success. Dr. Anna Buinewicz is assisting me to improve my looks with a new skin care regime and services. Her encouragement and positive feedback is priceless. Patty Witt from Pilate’s Bodies Studio is going to help me build up my strength, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally, which I need very much in my life. And last but certainly not least, my friends who are always on the sidelines cheering me on. Don’t fool yourself. Success is never obtained on the solo. We all need each other not only to tell us about the good, but also to have the courage and integrity to tell us the bad, knowing it will only help you grow and become a better person. No man is an island.

I will continue on this journey until the wheels fall off. I know in the upcoming months it will become difficult and physically challenging. I am up for it. I am learning I AM A FIGHTER. I will fight this fight until the bell rings and I will be up ready for the next round. Not only am I a contender, I am a winner.
