Marsha Brown New Hope

Lunch dining at Marsha Brown's is held in the casual bar & parlor seating area

Lunch- the meal so often overlooked by Americans yet so widely celebrated in cultures across the world. While countries like Spain and Italy are famous for taking time each day to enjoy their midday meal, Americans rarely set aside time to experience the luxury of a wonderful lunchtime experience.

At Marsha Brown in New Hope, however, lunchtime is much more than a stop on the way to dinner; it's a New Orleans escape smack in the middle of Bucks County.  Less expensive than their dinner menu, Marsha Brown's lunch is the chance for people to experience their famous Creole cuisine at a more affordable cost.

So what's on the menu? First up are a variety of Po' Boys, a traditional Louisiana submarine sandwich.  Though ingredients vary, from catfish to sausage to roast beef, each Marsha Brown's Po' Boy is made using French Bread with mayonnaise and a layer of pickle.

Marsha takes the quintessential lunch food, a sandwich, to the next level with options including Kobe beef and tuna tartar burgers, crab cake sandwiches, and even a New Orleans Philly Cheesesteak.  If you order the Louisiana Burger, layered with Louisiana Hot Sauce; cheddar cheese; and crispy onions make sure to have a stack of napkins nearby!

While Southern dishes are infamous for their rich flavor, there are also tasty light options including soups and salads- Lobster Bisque, Gumbo, Prosciutto Salad and more.  I had the chance to sample the amazing Chopped Salad with grilled chicken. I was shocked to find their lunch menu salads priced comparably to many of the restaurant chains. I have a feeling Panera bread doesn't make them like this, though! (see below)

Another light fare option- Marsha's famous oyster bar, which is available all day long. Marsha's typically has four to five fresh varieties from both the East and West coast. The knowledgeable staff will give you a run-down of what's available.

On the other end of the spectrum, you will also find the savory, classic New Orleans entrees including Jambalaya, Eggplant Ophelia, Crab Cheesecake, & Crawfish Etouffee.  Lunch is the perfect time to sample smaller portions of the rich, Southern food.

Don't let the word “cheesecake” fool you; the Mamere's Crab Cheesecake is definitely an entree, not a dessert!  The smoked gouda tart and lump crab meat is truly unique & delicious.

Perhaps Americans will never embrace daily lunchtime the way Europeans have, but that doesn't mean we can't do it up right when we get the chance. Lunch at Marsha Brown's goes beyond the typical burger joint, a true midday Creole culinary adventure in a relaxed Southern atmosphere.
