Bucks County Community College has snagged acclaimed saxpphone master Melissa Aldana for a performance and master class before she makes her way to performances in New York and Chicago.
Acclaimed tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana follows up her 2014 Concord release Melissa Aldana & Crash Trio with the explorative and deeply swinging Back Home, this time released under the Wommusic label. While Pablo Menares, Aldana’s fellow artist from beautiful city of Santiago, Chile, plays bass. Playing on drums is the always in-demand Jochen Rueckert, bringing a supple and unpredictable rhythmic élan to the session. As a result, these three musicians creates a silvery uncommonly full orchestral sound. A sound rich in spiritual intensity and all in the absence of a harmony instrument.

Rising tenor saxophone star releases her second trio album unveiling powerful music by herself and her illustrious band mates. As the trio charts new terrain and evolves in its musical identity, Aldana feels that there’s continuity from the last album and perhaps some added maturity. They were working and touring a lot, performing one day at a large outdoor stages like the Playboy Jazz Festival in LA. Then perform next at intimate clubs like Smalls in New York. She is trying to bring in all the experience and things that she learned these past two years. She has gone to many really different places, hanging out with the guys, rehearsing back in New York and composing new music. Aldana feels that this album is a more mature band sound that’s starting to emerge.

The acclaimed tenor saxophonist will be offering a free master class from 3pm – 4pm.  The concert will follow at 7:30pm.   More info here.
