Shoulder-Pain

The shoulder is the most flexible joint in the entire human body and although commonly thought of as a single joint, consists of two separate joints. This complexity, of course, can lead to a number of painful issues.

On Thursday, June 25, 2015, Dr. John Petolillo, Jr., will give a lecture on “Shoulder Injuries and Problems” at the Newtown Athletic Club, free to both members as well as the general public. He will cover such topics as rotator cuff issues, arthritis and non-surgical and surgical treatments. There are many ways to evaluate shoulder joint issues and Dr. Petilillo will give an expert analysis of this joint and its potential issues.

The lecture, part of the Project Wellness partnership between the Newtown Athletic Club and Aria Health, takes place on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 7:30 in Studio 1 at the Newtown Athletic Club.

The NAC Aria Project Wellness was designed to create a seamless continuum of services for NAC members and the community to be able to learn, not only about health and wellness through lectures and educational programs, but also to discover methods of prevention for injury and illness. Together Aria and the NAC are committed to the health and wellness of the entire community and this Project is one way to allow people to access the education and the services they need.

According to Linda Mitchell, NAC Directory of Public and Community Relations, “The NAC Aria Project Wellness is unique in the health and fitness industry in that it affords both NAC members and the community access to information and services in a direct way that was not available before. This type of wellness programming is crucial to the future health of our nation and will serve to not only make individuals healthier, but in the end can reduce healthcare costs by encouraging healthier living.”

The event's featured speaker – John Petolillo, Jr., DO – has been a practicing general orthopedic surgeon for 16 years and is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Albright College in Reading, PA. Following that, he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His wide ranging expertise includes arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, total knee and hip replacement surgery, fracture surgery and endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery.

Dr. Petolillio has become a sought after expert, as part of the orthopaedic medical staff for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2006, the Orthopaedic residency trainer for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and as a member of the Committee on Orthopedic Surgery for the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association.
