What if Michael Phelps had never found his way to the pool? Or if Lolo Jones never tried jumping over a hurdle?
If the thrill of the Olympic games has your little ones motivated to compete, the Newtown Athletic Club is holding the event for them- the 1st annual Kids Triathlon on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
For many years, the Newtown Athletic Club has worked to promote healthy living among youth, an issue more poignant than ever as childhood obesity reaches an all-time high in the United States. Not only does a triathlon event serve as a springboard to good health, but it will also introduces kids to new types of sporting events.
The NAC’s aquatics director, Brandi Perkovich, and the events director, Caitlin McKenna, coordinate this event. Both have high knowledge and experience in triathlon’s and will be holding a FREE clinic for any child who may be interested in the event but unsure about it due to lack of experience. This clinic will be held on August 8th, 2012 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. They will teach the basics of a triathlon, specifically transitioning from one event to the next. Registration is not required for the clinic but recommended.
All children ages 5 through 12 are welcome to join the event. Kids must be registered for this event by August 21st, which they can do on the Newtown Athletic Club website.
