Orangetheory Fitness’s One Hour Total Body workout has been praised by the New York Times as a “plateau-busting workout.”  Now, the workout that has helped people all over the country get into the best shape of their lives is coming to Newtown.40579287_1229599-1

Steve Sayers, franchise owner and studio manager of OTF Newtown, says “it is the enthusiasm andexcitement for the workout that has fueled our dramatic growth.” The Florida based company, which has been in business for only five years, has 245 studios open nationwide, and over 900 more in development domestic and abroad.

“I don’t know if it is the group setting, the attention of the trainers, or the workout itself that people love. Whatever it is, it seems to be enjoyed equally by both fitness enthusiasts and the casual exerciser”, said Sayers.

So what is driving thousands of people across the country to Orangetheory Fitness? It’s the unique combination of a results-driven, custom workout done in a fun and supportive environment that has people hooked.

The 60-minute total body fitness sessions, designed for all fitness levels, feature cardiovascular workouts and strength training on treadmills, water rowers and weight stations that range from free weights to medicine balls to suspension bands.

40579287_1235445Each participant wears a heart rate monitor. Results are displayed on a screen to chart individual progress and to ensure each member is in the targeted heart zone.

“It's not like most gyms where you work out on your own and then leave,” said Sayers, a former insurance broker who became passionate about Orangetheory when he worked out at their Willow Grove location.

“We have set class schedules. You book your class and the trainer walks you through that day's workout routine, ensuring that you get the best possible workout that you can.”

The workout is done under OTF’s cool orange lighting, using their state of the art equipment. Women can burn between 500 and 800 calories in an hour, and men burn between 600- 1000 calories!

“Being able to have those kinds of measurable results, and getting them in a fun but challenging setting, keeps people coming back” said Sayers.

So where does the Orange in Orangetheory Fitness come from?

“We train in five heart rate zones that range from resting heart rate (the white zone) all the way up to the red zone, which is your maximum capacity, basically your “all out”, said Sayers. “The goal is to spend between 12 to 20 minutes of your workout in the orange zone, which is 84-92% of your maximum heart rate. Science has proven that this creates a boost in your metabolism and causes you to continue to burn calories for 24 to 36 hours post workout.”

While it may sound intimidating, Sayers stresses that the workout is for everyone. “Your goal is to get your heart rate into the orange zone. For an older person, that may be accomplished by walking on the treadmill at a slight incline, where a conditioned athlete may need to run hard to get there. Everyone in the class works at their own pace.”

This innovative fitness center officially opens in Newtown on July 31, 2015 next to the Newtown Farmer’s Market at 2140 South Eagle Road (in the Village of Newtown South shopping center).
