The Riverview Consort will present Now Winter Nights: Carols by Candlelight, a delightful performance of Christmas favorites and forgotten gems set in the magical acoustic of the 1867 Sanctuary in Ewing, New Jersey on December 18 at 8:00 pm. The Consort (Abigail Chapman, soprano; John Burkhalter, recorders; and John Lacombe, lutes; and guest percussionist Peter Gregory) is sure to take the audience's breath away with hauntingly beautiful melodies from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, as well as delicate arrangements of more modern favorites. From familiar tunes like “What Child is This?” (originally the lute-song “Greensleeves”) to lesser known songs like “Now Winter Nights” (originally published in 1617, but possibly your new favorite holiday song), this sublime evening in the candlelit 1867 Sanctuary is sure to be the perfect escape from seasonal hustle and bustle.

The Riverview Consort is made up of local professional musicians. Soprano Abigail Chapman and percussionist Peter Gregory reside in Yardley, PA. Chapman is best known for her work in early music, her performances of 20th and 21st century music, and her creative song recitals. Gregory, making this special appearance on hand percussion, is usually a drum set player, performing in a variety of styles. John Lacombe lives in Washington Crossing, PA; performing on historical plucked string instruments from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, he has performed with various period instrument ensembles and collaborated frequently with singers on lute-song repertory. Recorder player John Burkhalter lives in Princeton, NJ; a founding member of The Practitioners of Musick, he has also performed with other period ensembles, as well as in various English country dance bands. All four musicians perform in the Philadelphia and New York City areas, as well as elsewhere around the country.

Tickets are $20.00 for general admission; $15.00 for Friends of the Sanctuary; $5.00 for school and college students with ID; and $15.00 per person for groups of ten or more people.
