I have always believed in trying to preserve the past by saving what you can of historical assets. Many old and historical buildings and farms that use to dot the Bucks County Landscape are slowly disappearing to make way for large developments. Once these places are gone they can never be replaced and that part of our history is lost forever. If we could start to save just one historical site at a time we might be able to hold on to what is left of the past.

The Plumstead Historical Society was founded in 2006 by a group of Plumstead citizens who wanted to preserve the rich heritage of the Plumstead Township area.  Plumstead Township is a small community of about 11,000 people just outside of Doylestown.

On Sunday September 26 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, the Plumstead Historical Society will be hosting its First Annual Country Picnic, a fundraiser to benefit the Society’s plan to save the Danboro Community Building.  The Danboro Community Building, also known as the Danboro Chapel, was constructed in 1889.  For the last 57 years it has been under the care of Ms. Ruth Peters and the Danboro Community Association.  The goal of the fundraiser is to save the Danboro Community Building from the same fate as the Gardenville Union Chapel, which was torn down when sufficient funds could not be raised to save it.  Both the Gardenville and Danboro Chapels were bult as non-denominational community centers.  It would be tragic to see Plumstead lose both of its historic meeting places.

The goal of the fundraiser is to establish a fund that will preserve the Danboro Community Building’s future, and provide a home for the Plumstead Historical Society.  The Country Picnic fundraiser will be hosted at the Plumsteadville Fire Company.  Tickets are $25.00 per person ($20.00 for Seniors), and $45.00 for couples.  $10.00 for children under 12 and children 5 and under are free!

The Picnic will include fun activities, historic displays, Silent Auction, world class Guitar & Banjo by Courtney Colletti and Country Barbecue by Pt. Pleasant Village Caterers.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
