Also Coming up from SCORE: Addiction in the Workplace Seminar

Among the many concerns and responsibilities for employers is maintaining a healthy employee base and productive workplace environment. Substance abuse can have drastic effects on that productivity and cost companies thousands of dollars annually. In fact, according to the DWI Resource Center website, an employee who uses illicit drugs or engages in heavy alcohol consumption can cost their employer over $7,000 annually in lost productivity.

To help local employers understand the issue and how it relates to their businesses, the Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce is hosting a workshop/breakfast meeting, Addiction in the Workplace. Heidi Gordon, MS, CADC, Director of Intervention Services with The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. will be the speaker.

Topics discussed will include understanding substance use disorders and learning how to identify it. What are the legal and ethical responsibilities for employers? Finally, the speaker will provide information on available resources and support avenues.

The meeting will take place on Wed., April 18, from 8 am to 10 am at the Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is located at 21 N. Main St., Quakertown, PA 18951.
