The Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 30th this year) is Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to supporting locally-owned shops, restaurants and businesses.

Setting aside a specific day to shop local businesses is a reminder that local businesses help to foster a sustainable economy. The money spent locally stays local and benefits the community. Plus, shoppers can find that one-of-a-kind gift that can’t be bought anywhere else. Shop owners and employees are on hand to answer any questions about the merchandise and individualized service that shoppers can’t get online or even in a big box store. And there is also something about strolling down the streets of town taking in the lights and the decorations instead of clicking a phone or computer to make a purchase. Shopping locally can remind us that we are all connected, especially during the holiday season.

Many of the local businesses participating in Small Business Saturday will offer special events, deals, and sales for the occasion. Here are just a few Bucks County destinations that are perfect for Small Business Saturday and throughout the holiday season:

New Hope/Lambertville

New Hope is home to eclectic shopping, riverside dining and holiday festivities such as the tree lightning and parade on Sunday, Dec. 1, Santa's Steam Spectacular and more. When you're visiting, be sure to check out Happening List Favorites such as Olive-N-Grape, God Save the Qweens, 13 Vintage, Le Chateau Exotique, and Love Saves the Day. And grab a bite at Big Cookie Co., Blue Moose Cafe, River Cat Cafe or Marsha Brown.

(Specials at Zanya from 11/29 – 12/1.)

If you're in New Hope, it's just a walk over the bridge to visit the neighboring town of Lambertville. Lambertville is a haven of antique shops, art galleries and curiosity shops. Zanya Spa Salon (a Happening List Finalist in multiple categories) will be offering Black Friday specials from Friday, Nov. 29th through Sunday, Dec. 1st. (See the image here for details.) And on Dec. 11th, Zanya Spa Salon will host their Holiday Open House. Visit between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to be celebrated and pampered! Consult with brand ambassadors and receive complimentary experiences at over a dozen beauty kiosks throughout the salon and spa. There will also be raffle baskets with drawings on the hour and plenty of product and sample giveaways. Before heading home, visit Lambertville Station for a warm meal or drink by the fireplace.

Peddler's Village

Peddler's Village is always a popular holiday shopping destination. With over 60 specialty shops and boutiques, several wonderful restaurants, and tons of holiday charm, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Special mention to Happening List favorites Velvet Slipper, Lace Silhouettes Lingerie, Village Outfitters, Moku Bowls and Caleb's American Kitchen.

On Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1, Peddler's Village will host their Christmas Festival. There will be Santa Parades at 1:30 p.m. both days. Remember to visit the Annual Gingerbread House Display in the Village Gazebo! Shops are open until 9 p.m. on Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Yardley

On Small Business Saturday a variety of Yardley businesses will be offering specials, entertainment, activities and events. Stroll around and experience Yardley's food and beverage options, specialty retail and wellness services.

Be sure to check out the amazing #ShopLocalYardley downtown gift basket contest that's running now through November 30. One lucky winner will receive a massive #ShopLocalYardley gift basket prepared by Ye Olde Yardley Florist. Valued at over $2,300, the basket contains more than 31 prizes from businesses and organizations in Yardley Borough. There will also be five runner-up prizes at individual businesses as well.

To enter, make a purchase at one of the participating businesses by November 30 and fill out an entry ticket. There is no limit to the number of purchases made until the contest closes, and no limit to the number of entries customers may submit. The winner will be picked on Sunday, December 1.

Some of the participating businesses are Bucks Happening List Winners and Finalists such as: Witt Pilates, Express Nails, and Grist Mill Fitness & Nutrition.

Bristol Borough

Bristol's Mill Street Business District is a 2019 Happening List Finalist for Shopping Destination for good reason. Since being featured in the show Small Business Revolution in 2017, Bristol Borough has undergone a huge revitalization. So if you haven't been there recently, the holiday season is the perfect time to visit. And if you have been there, well then you already know! Shop unique stores such as Bristol Antiques Market (Happening List Finalist), Spice & Co., Another Time Antiques, Mignoni Jewelry, Polka Dot Parlor (Happening List Finalist) and more. After working up an appetite, choose from the many eateries such as Itri, Jules@Market, Mill Street Cantina and Annabella's. (They're all Bucks Happening List Winners!)

Bristol's Tree Lighting event occurs on Friday, November 29 at 6 p.m., making the Borough an even happier place to shop during the holiday season.
