One year ago, ShopRite of Yardley opened its doors in the Oxford Oaks Shopping Center

It was just about one year ago that the Lower Bucks County food landscape was transformed with the addition of a new, state-of-the-art grocery store in the Oxford Oaks Shopping Center. With the addition of ShopRite of Yardley, locals are being treated to a whole new set of standards for grocery shopping. Gone are the days of a one-size-fits-all mentality. The modern supermarket experience is designed to provide customized solutions for each individual shopper.

This innovative spirit has helped define ShopRite's success, with local, on-the-ground owners, like the Colalillo family in Bucks & Hunterdon Counties, able to best relate to and serve their respective communities. In fact, ShopRite of Yardley is already making headlines, taking home top honors in the Courier Times as “The Best Supermarket 2015” as well as a Finalist in the 2015 Bucks Happening List for “Gourmet Market.” Here are just a few of the ways that ShopRite of Yardley has introduced a new standard in grocery shopping to the Yardley community since opening in fall 2014:

  • Online shopping with home & work delivery options: In today's world of non-stop schedules for the whole family, ShopRite offers a solution. Shop remotely at home or in your office, and you can pick them up at a Shoprite that is convenient for you. Too busy to stop after work? No problem! Shoprite also offers home and office delivery.

  • One-Stop-Shop Design: In addition to online shopping, the 57,000-square-foot ShopRite of Yardley was designed with functionality in mind.  Convenient perks include an in-store pharmacy and an on-staff registered Dietician ready to help customers learn about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Planning a party or a need some grub for a work meeting? Talk to Karen, Shoprite's Catering coordinator, to make your entertaining or business lunch planning simple and easy. An expansive prepared food department (read more on that here) makes finding last-minute meals to satisfy the pickiest of families a cinch.
  • Commitment to Health & Wellness: ShopRite of Yardley's health and wellness team includes dietician Megan Collins, RD and Pharmacist Rick Nelson, both who have a positive impact on the store and community. Megan works with store chefs to incorporate healthier options into the hot food bar and also establishes relationships with patients and doctors from local hospitals to show them how easy it is to eat healthy.
  • Childcare: Scrunchy’s Playhouse is perfect for parents who want to get in and out without distractions. Childcare is provided for children ages 3 to 8 for up to 90 minutes!
  • Specialty Selection: Throwing a fancy dinner party? Or just stocking up for the family? There's no need to stop at a specialty cheese shop or fishmonger after a trip to the grocery store. Fresh produce, fresh meats, and fresh ingredients are what keeps ShopRite customers coming back. Just one example is their cheese selection, managed by Dawn Pope who was professionally trained in France and Vermont. Fresh mozzarella is actually made in-store several times a week.  Jeannie Collalilo, who serves as the Director of Community Relations, describes ShopRite's fresh-deliverery fish program, “Fish is flown into our store each Friday and Saturday. The fish is caught Thursday or Friday in Pacific or Northwest waters and delivered directly to the store. It can't be fresher!”

Other popular items throughout this year at Shoprite are Martin's sausage, produce from PA and NJ farms, and Shoprite’s very own made-in-store items; donuts, breads, crab cakes, and more!

The glue that holds all of these fantastic features together, though, is the teamwork among ShopRite's employees. Whether it's helping solve a current problem or keeping their fingers on the pulse of a growing need in the community, there is a strong commitment to going above-and-beyond to serve their customers.  “Our Associates make a difference every day, we are committed to providing a great shopping experience,” Jeannie explains.

Store Manager Mike Jacob utilizes combines his trusted experience with an unwavering drive. Employees know that Jacob “shows up to the store to play his A- game every day.” In additon to Jacobs, the entire management team works together to ensure that the whole store looks and functions at the highest level possible; its not just about a few departments. Everyday is meant to offer an “opening day” level of quality.

With a strong management team in place and opening “kinks” conquered, ShopRite is looking forward to continuing to enhance the shopping experience for their customers – more in store and community events, improved product lines, expanding ShopRite Kitchen foods, and even more cooking classes led by registered dietician Megan Collins, RD. As always, though, ShopRite's future depends on their customers. “We will be listening to our customers to hear what they want from their store,” explaines Jeannie.

With so many exciting features introduced to the Yardley community in the first year, we can't wait to see what's in store for 2016!
