Hot and Sour Vegetable Soup

In a town that primarily serves up pub grub and pizzas, Siam Cuisine has been spicing up the restaurant scene throughout Bucks County for years, serving authentic Thai food. Dishes range from piping hot soups to spicy curries to tasty stir-fry and noodle dishes.

We arrived in Buckingham close to 9pm on a Sunday, which, in Bucks County, often means you're out of luck!  However, Siam not only promptly seated us, but allowed us to enjoy the meal at a leisurely pace.

The meal began with a kick, the Hot and Sour Vegetable Soup, known locally as Gaeng Som Pug, a mix of vegetables in a hot & sour lemon-chili flavored broth. While many restaurants would use the tangy broth as an excuse to skimp on the fixings, Siam's soup was full of fresh vegetable.

Thai Salad

Next up was the Thai Salad, also known as Som Tum, a tasty combination of sliced cabbage, stripped carrots tossed with mildly spiced lemon sauce topped with ground peanut. While salads are often drowned in dressing, the veggies in the Thai salad were fresh & crisp, perfectly accented by the lemon sauce.

For the main event, I enjoyed the Spicy Drunken Noodle, or Phad Kee Moa, a Thai style flat rice noodle stir-fried with mixed vegetables, sweet basil and garlic pepper spicy chili sauce.  For a vegetarian (or those dining with a vegetarian), Thai cuisine offers a variety of options beyond the standard salad.

By the end of dinner at Siam's Buckingham location, I learned why Thais call their country “Muang Thai”, which means “Land of Smiles”.
