Doylestown-native and Archbishop Wood alumni, Sean McCartney, known by his obvious nickname “Red”, led West Chester University's 2014 football season to success. The Golden Rams won 12 of their school-record 13 games with Red starting at Quarterback. It's no surprise, then, that Sean was awarded PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the year as well as named one of nine finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is presented to NCAA Division II's College Football Player of the Year. Though he was edged out of the top spot by Ferris State University's junior quarterback Jason Vander Laan, McCartney has nothing to hang his head about. Knowns to his mature signal-calling and confidence, Red demands greatness from his offense when he steps on field.  And his maturity may be related to experience; Red is actually the longest-tenured starting QB in the PSAC this year.

Red has broken several records at West Chester, including throwing 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career. He ranks fifth all-time at WCU in both completions (408) and attempts (697) and seventh all-time in both passing yards (5,851) and passing TDs (50). With his impressive college career, there's no doubt that Sean McCartney will be a name that lives on as part of the West Chester University football program for many years to come.
