That heat you feel at the railroad tracks on Second Street Pike in Southampton isn’t coming from a train, it’s rolling out from the Steam Pub Eatery. It could be their famous Steam Wings or their succulent prime rib. The good news is that that aroma can be enjoyed in-house or on the go, as almost all of their favorites can be transported to bring the Steam experience to any event. One of the delicious items that frequently makes it out of the station is their famous Wass Burger.
Catering Manager Jackie Ehrgott perfectly summed up the draw of the Wass Burger, “Eight ounces of chuck meat with bacon, on a toasted brioche bun is always a crowd pleaser. It’s delicious.”
Another popular catering item is the Mandarin Salmon entrée, perfectly seasoned Steam Wings and Tuscan Chicken. Ehrgott said she loves great customer feedback on her food, and those dishes always earn top marks. And while the food is always the star of the show she said great catering is more than great flavors it’s about a great experience.
“We are the type of restaurant that will always go above and beyond no matter what the circumstance. We’ve had a situation where a party was expected to be at a nearby country club. Unfortunately, they lost power right before event. We are familiar with the staff and team and they reached out to us here at Steam. We were able to move the party to Steam very quickly and accommodate all their needs. Sometimes situations arise that are out of our control and it’s unfortunate, however when you’re in a community where we all look out for one another, it’s a great feeling.”
She’s not shy about the outcome of their quick thinking, “We killed it that day with that party and the guests were so thankful and pleased. “
A great catering experience has to be more than food, Ehrgott explained, people need a feast for the eyes as well. She said they present food on tiers, adding levels to their buffets. They also pay attention to dishes and glassware. Setting off each dish with personal touches like edible flowers.
Steam Pub has done countless events since they opened in 2012. They have catered weddings, funerals, bridal showers, christenings, baby showers and more. They have also wowed their clientele at corporate events. Steam Pub has expanded their catering menu in the last year to include everything from brunch to five-course dinners, working with some great off-premises venues like the Rose Bank Winery along the way.
“There are really no jobs we won’t do, big or small,” Ehrgott said.
“The more creative the venture the more excited we are to win the job,” says owner and general manager Martin Hoeger. “It’s really a special feeling when a client entrusts you with their special occasion,” Hoeger said. “You just want to shine the best you can for them”.
