Summer lovin' … When it's hot outside, it can be tempting to crank up the AC and just veg out with the latest Netfix craze. (Stranger Things Season 3, anyone?) But summer is also a great time to get out of the house and enjoy some one-on-one time with your loved one. Here are some fun things to do and places to visit in Bucks County this season.

Dinner and a Show

Sure, it’s the classic date night. But you really can’t go wrong with a good meal and some quality entertainment. Here are a few suggestions for this summer:

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater: Crime of Thrones

GOT fans will love this new themed murder mystery dinner at Peddler’s Village.  Shows run every Friday and Saturday starting July 5 at 8 p.m. Get tickets here.

Tip: Make a day of it by strolling the shops in the Village or visiting Chaddsford Tasting Room for a wine tasting before the show.

Summer Music Fest at Bristol Riverside Theater

Bristol Borough is home to the beautiful Bristol Riverside Theatre. From July 18 through July 28, you can catch Woodstock at 50: A Celebration. And from August 15 through August 25, the popular Broadway Summer Spectacular is back. Get tickets here. Before the show, enjoy dinner at one of Bristol Borough’s wonderful restaurants.

Tip: Annabella’s was our 2019 Happening List Winner for Best Italian; Mill Street Cantina won Best Mexican; and Itri won Best Pizza.

Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope

Considered “America’s Most Famous Summer Theater,” the Bucks County Playhouse is always a popular spot this time of year. This summer, you can see Mamma Mia now through August 3 and then Always Patsy Cline from August 9 through September 7. Get tickets here.

Tip: Before the show, enjoy dinner or drinks at one of the area’s many beautiful restaurants. (Many with outdoor seating!) Marsha Brown Restaurant was a 2019 Happening List Finalist for Date Night; The Logan Inn and The Landing were Happening List Finalists for Outdoor Dining; and Jose Garces’s new restaurant Stella just opened last month, right next door to the Playhouse.

Wine Tasting

Spend an afternoon or evening sipping wine at one of Bucks’s County’s wineries. (Or, if you’re feeling ambitious and can arrange transportation, you can visit the entire Bucks County Wine Trail in one day!)

Tip: If you like to pair your wine with a little entertainment, check out the Summer Wine & Music Series at Crossing Vineyards or a Summer Wine Concert at Shady Brook Farm or the Market at Del Val.

Visit a Brewery

If beer is your beverage of choice, Bucks County has a number of unique venues offering interesting flavors and great craft brews. In fact, you can visit any Bucks County brewery or the Bucks County Visitor Center to pick up a Bucks County Ale Trail Passport.

Tip: Moss Mill Brewing Company is our 2019 Happening List Winner for Best Brewery. The Huntingdon Valley spots hosts a variety of specials such as their FreshBeerFriday as well as monthly Cruise & Brews and Suds & Songs events.

Get Away (For the Night!)

For many people, the only time you spend a night away from home is when you're traveling or going to an event like a wedding. But there's really something special about getting away from the daily routines of home life, even if you're staying somewhere nearby.

Tip: The Inn at Bowman's Hill is a 2019 Happening List Winner for Most Romantic and Bed & Breakfast. Relax by the heated pool, enjoy wine on the terrace, and be sure to get an in-room massage!

The Washington House Hotel & Restaurant is another great option. The 2019 Happening List Winner for Best Hotel offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere. After dinner, head next door to the historic Sellervsille Theater, our 2019 Happening List Winner for Best Live Music.

Live Music

Put on your dancing shoes and belt out some tunes. Whether it's going to a concert or catching a local cover band, live music is a fun way to add energy to a date night.

Tip: In addition to Sellersville Theater, our 2019 Happening List Winner for Live Music, Bucks County offers a number of opportunities for live music in the summer. Visit our Summer Guide for a rundown of just some of the many outdoor concerts this season.

Get Outside

Bucks County is beautiful – get outside and enjoy it! Stroll along the Delaware River Canal, take a boat ride in New Hope, bring a picnic lunch to a local park, or golf at a public golf course.

Tip: Bowman's Wildflower Preserve was voted Best Nature Spot in the 2019 Happening List. Visit in the afternoon, and then enjoy dinner at a nearby spot in New Hope.
