When the kids are home this summer, you might find yourself tasked with thinking of ways to entertain them. The Bucks County Free Library is a resource that you should definitely be using! In addition to the obvious (check out some new books!), the Library also offers tons of activities throughout the summer. And they're FREE.

Read below to find out about Bucks County Free Library's summer learning program that starts June 22, plus other reasons to rediscover your local library this summer.

Summer Quest

Summer Quest is the Bucks County Free Library’s learning program with a variety of free, fun activities to stay active, expand knowledge, and engage with the community during the summer. Kids can look forward to hands-on STEM activities, entertainers and animal visits, physical challenges, arts & crafts, storytimes and more! This year’s program will kick off with parties at each local branch on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Kick-Off Event will feature GIANT games, bubbles, face painting, craft and more. Plus, learn about this summer’s limited edition badges, pickup reading logs for the entire family, and enter a social media contest for a chance to win 6 VIP tickets to a Summer Quest performance the following Saturday.

Enjoy Free Playspaces

In addition to the scheduled activities for kids through Summer Quest, there are plenty of other ways for kids to engage at their local library. Explore playspaces like Penn’s Little Village at the Langhorne Branch and Career Corner at the Yardley Branch. At the Doylestown Branch, the Backyard offers a beautiful outdoor space to meet with other parents and kids. The Discovery Studio at the Quakertown Branch is an interactive space for adults and children, with exhibits that change every few weeks.

Try An Instrument

Strike up the band! The library has a collection of instruments for a variety of ages, allowing you to have some fun without needing to purchase noisemakers of your own. Try the ukulele, accordion or musical washboard. Get more details here.

With so many streaming options available these days, you might forget that you can also get movies from your local library. And it’s FREE! In addition to a wide selection of DVDs to rent, your library card also allows you to stream movies, music, audiobooks, comics and TV shows using Hoopla.

Summer is always a popular time for parties, but purchasing games and entertainment can get expensive. And then you have to store them when they’re not in use!
