Our area has some great Halloween festivities:

For the Daytime:

  • The Count's Halloween Spooktacular at Sesame Place: All new Elmo’s World Live! Halloween Show, themed character dining opportunities, all new fun interactive maze, fun new decorations. Guests are invited to visit Sesame Place dressed in costume. Enjoy a special live Halloween show – “Countdown to Halloween.” Trick-or-treat throughout the park, enjoy hayrides and story time with the Sesame Street characters.
  • Pumpkinfest at Shadybrook Farms: $10 Admission price includes hayrides to the Pumpkin Patch to pick-your-own pumpkins (pumpkins not included), inflatable amusements, live Entertainment, barn of horror jr.,alien encounter, SBF 500 Racetrack, themed play areas, straw maze, barnyard animals, pig races, giant corn maze, and more! Not included but there to enjoy: gem mining, pony rides, sand art, face painting, paint ball, monster truck rides & some other activities.
  • Fall Pumpkin Festival at NoneSuch Farms: Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins, live country music, hayrides, pony rides, face painting, tot train ride & free parking.
  • Active Acres (Sleepy Hollow): Hayrides to the pumpkin patch, inflatable house, moon bounce, 6 acre corn maze, corn cannon, pony rides and more.

In the Night:

  • Horrorfest at Shady Brook Farms: Friday & Saturday nights during October.  They have 4 attractions– Barn of Horror, Hayride of Horror, Deadtime Stories Corm Maze & a 3D attraction called Alien Encounter.  You can purchase tickets online to avoid the longs lines in person.  Any one attraction is $15, any two is $25, any three is $30 and all four is #35.  Shady Brook Farm | 931 Stony Hill Road | Yardley | 215-968-1670.
  • New Hope Railroad Haunted Train: Rides last about an hour.  They have First Class ($31) and Coach Tickets (Adults $27, Children $23, Toddlers $4).  New Hope Railroad | 32 West Bridge Street |New Hope | 215-862-2332.
  • Valley of Fear: The “original” haunted hayride, 2 haunted houses, Valley of Fear forest maze. Tickets may be purchased online or in person.  Attractions are $33 each.  Valley of Fear | 301 W. Bristol Rd | Feasterville-Trevose | 215-942-9787.
  • Active Acres (Sleepy Hollow): Hayride, haunted house, field of fright.  Prices here.

UPDATE:

Next weekend, October 24th, check out Haunted Bucks County by the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve.  Spend a spooky hour learning about ghosts, apparitions and other things (the Jersey Devil?) that go bump in Bucks County. The Bucks County Historical Society Speakers Bureau will share some eerie stories and perhaps answer the ultimate haunted Bucks County question: Is New Hope really the most haunted place in the County? This program is appropriate for ages 12 and up. www.bhwp.org
UPDATE:

New Hope has announced big Halloween plans.  Including:

  • Saturday, October 24:  Witches, Wenches & Vixens Pubcrawl.  6 PM.  The Stephan House, 28 W. Bridge Street, New Hope, PA 18938 PH: 908.752.1174. $30/per person.  Start the evening with witchingly hors d’oeuvres, ghoulish goodies and a spirited witches brew followed by a fireside drum circle led by Spirit in the Woods owner and master drum maker Conrad Kubiak. Then the delightful and devious witches, wenches and vixens will crawl into participating New Hope restaurants/bars to entertain patrons for 20 minutes of ghastly fun. Donations will be solicited for the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund. The evening will end with a midnight costume contest with prizes for: Best Dressed Witch, Best Dressed Wench, Best Dressed Vixen and the winner of the most collected donations for the Scholarship Fund.
  • Friday, October 30:  Time Warp Masquerade. 8PM –  11:30 PM.  The Stephan House, 28 W. Bridge Street, New Hope, PA 18938 PH: 908.752.1174.  Performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show to follow at 11:30 at Bucks County Playhouse.  $40/for party only, $50/for party and live performance. The Time Warp Masquerade kicks off with horrifying hors d’oeuvres and a harvest buffet sponsored by Jamie Hollander Catering. Special guest DJ will spin Halloween tunes. New Hope’s own treasure, “Miss Pumpkin” and “The Queen of Halloween” will make a special appearance. The party concludes with a Mischief March down Main Street to the renowned Bucks County Playhouse for a midnight performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Costume prizes will be awarded for Best Portrayal of Rocky Horror Character, Scariest Costume, Sexiest Costume, Funniest Costume and Most Creative Costume.
  • Saturday, October 31st:  Halloween Street Fair and Trick or Treating.  6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mechanic Street, New Hope, PA.  FREE.  All ages are welcome to experience the Costume Contest & Photo Booth and a chance to win prizes for: Best Dressed Pet, Best Costume Kids under 12 years, Best Costume Adults, 12 years and older. Hosted by New Hope’s own Miss Pumpkin, the highly anticipated Annual High Heeled “Drag Race” will take place at 6:30 pm. Contestants must bring their own heels. Pumpkins will be supplied by Tear Drop Memories. Other Street Fair activities include Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest, Pumpkin bowling, Pumpkin Toss, Pumpkin Carving Contest, Candy Corn Catch and Face Painting.

  • All That Remains:  A History of Cemetaries and Funeral Customs at Mercer Museum.  Oct 25 @ 1:30.  Historian Bruce Stocking unearths the fascinating history of graveyards and funerary rituals, from ancient Egypt through the 19th century. The program features an illustrated presentation on gravestone art and evolution, and up close viewing of antique funerary artifacts from the collection of Robert Rees. Registration required.
  • Mercer by Moonlight: What lurks in the shadows of the Mercer Castle? Discover the history and folklore of some of the museum’s more chilling and ghoulish objects, including a hearse, gallows, “witch” doctor's canes, brooms and more on this seasonal nighttime tour. Appropriate for ages 8 and up. $12 adults, $10 BCHS member adults, $8 youth (12 and under), $6 BCHS member youth. Reservations recommended.

  • Tour Henry Mercer's castle home to learn about his love of detective and gothic literature, including the works of Edgar Allen Poe. The program concludes with a special dramatic telling of Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” by popular local actor, Grover Silcox.
