Has your little one been dancing and twirling her way through quarantine? Has she missed social interaction? Maybe she could use a new activity to burn off all that energy? The Dance Academy (TDA) in Holland recently kicked off their 34th season, offering classes in all disciplines of dance! The students at The Dance Academy range from ages 2-1/2 to 18 years (plus there's a Mommy & Me Class for 18 months to 2-1/2 years), from beginner to professional, so there's truly a class for everyone. And when you join The Dance Academy, you're not just enrolling in a class. You're signing her up for the opportunity to form lasting friendships, feel part of a community and develop lifelong skills that go beyond the dance floor.

At The Dance Academy, they focus on:

  • Proper Technique

  • Conditioning

  • Terminology

  • History of Dance

Instructors teach age-appropriate dance skills for each level, ensuring that the children have fun, develop their creative expression, and of course, get much-needed exercise.

Below, you'll find descriptions of the classes available for TDA's youngest students. The Young Children’s’ Division (Age 2.5-5) offers a variety of class choices. Classes range in length from 30 to 75 minutes. Children’s strength and abilities increase as they grow, which means their class time increases as well. In-person classes started mid-September, but you can enroll at any time. For the safety of the entire TDA Family, they are following all CDC guidelines. (You can find out more HERE.) In addition, you can opt for Zoom classes, or you can even talk to The Dance Academy Team about setting up a customized Zoom or in-person classes for small groups.

Mommy and Me Class – ages 18 months to 2 ½ years

TDA recommends that their youngest dancers, those under age of 2 ½ begin with their Mommy-n-me class.  This class introduces new dancers to the basics of dance while also incorporating the security of having Mommy right there in the classroom. As the class progresses throughout the season, dancers become independent from Mommy.

Ballet/Tap Combination classes for 4-5 year olds

Ballet Tap combination classes are offered at various levels. The Dance Academy’s combination classes incorporate ballet barre technique; tap rhythms, combinations, progressions, as well as an introduction to jazz and acrobatics.

Rumble Tumble Class for 3-5 year olds

This 45-minute tumbling class is an introductory to tumbling while incorporating coordination and rhythm games.

Creative Tap for 3 and 4 year olds

A 45-minute class offering creative dance, the introduction of basic tap as well as basic tumbling.

Your child will learn to plié and step-heel, and as part of their dance education, but beyond that, the dancers at TDA are gaining valuable life lessons. They're learning kindness, self-confidence, time management, teamwork, perseverance, passion, and more. The Dance Academy isn't just preparing its students for the stage. It's preparing them for life.
