Thyme for Tea

We are all about Bucks County, but we figured we would let you in on a little Montgomery County secret. This beautiful Victorian secret is Thyme for Tea located in Lansdale right on Main Street. Most people drive by not even aware of this place, since it is nestled in a row of stores. I find myself a frequent customer at Thyme for Tea, unable to resist the aroma and sandwiches. This time it was for a special occasion, my sisters birthday, and the place was open just for us! I always hear owner Bonnie Porro talk about all her private parties and finally got to experience one.

Normally, Thyme for Tea is bustling with tea-goers, you almost always need a reservation. It is a very intimate setting for tea, making you feel almost at home. You can choose either afternoon tea or cream tea. They even have nursery tea for the younger guests. The best part is picking your pot of tea from over eight pages of choices! Since we had the place all to ourselves, things went a little differently.

We had the choice of two teas, a typical plain black or a seasonal pumpkin spice – of course, I tried both. The pumpkin was delicious, just the right amount of flavor, not too over powering. It went great with my warm cinnamon pumpkin raisin scone of course smothered with devonshire cream ( it's almost like icing, but not too sweet). There is always a great variety of finger sandwiches to choose from; egg and olive, chicken with chutney, carrot with cheddar and my personal favorite, cucumber dill. If your not full already, there is always a large tray of desserts. I always have to try at least a bite of each. Pumpkin zucchini bread was perfect to finish along side of my pumpkin tea. We also had the choice of a cherry brownie, cream puff and fresh fruit. It may not look like a lot when it comes out, but you won't leave hungry.

Thyme for Tea is a perfect setting for a private party whether it is a birthday or special occasion. Bonnie is a great hostess and made sure we had everything we needed. She even made a mini-bunt cake for the birthday girl. We were almost there for two hours before we got up to check out the gift shop, which is full of great merchandise. You can buy most of the tea's available on the menu as well as your own fancy teacup to serve it in.

Bonnie also hosts an array of cooking classes including scone baking, tea sandwiches and mini desserts. In addition, there is an extensive catering menu so you can host your own tea party at home.

So don't forget between the hustle and bustle of life to take some Thyme for Tea!
