It's time to dust off your green gear, March 17th is nearly here! St. Paddy's began as a religious feast day in the 17th century to commemorate St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but has since evolved into a day of merriment with a variety of festivals and events the world over. St. Patrick's Day is a day to celebrate Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and lots and lots of green! Everyone's a little bit Irish on St. Paddy's… take a look below for your guide to Saint Patrick’s Day in Bucks County!

What would St. Patrick’s Day be without a festive parade showcasing the green, the art and the pride of the Irish? 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of this perennial Bucks County tradition, stretching back to 1989! Grand Marshals, Father Fidelis Weber, and Brother Larry Hilferty, leading the 2018 parade, both hail from Conwell-Egan Catholic High School.

Starting at 10:30 AM on March 10th, before the festivities of the following weekend, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will feature more than 2,000 participants—including pipes, dancers, mummers, and local marching bands. After passing through the streets of Bucks County, the parade will conclude at 1:00 PM on Corson Street in Bristol.

During the 8th Annual Newtown Irish festival, the Green Parrot Restaurant Pub & Patio will be at the heart of the celebrations, featuring live entertainment and Irish dishes for four straight nights.

Thursday, March 15th
The Galway Guild will perform at the bar from 8:00 PM on.

Friday, March 16th
Seamus McGroary will be playing in the restaurant at 12:00 PM followed by Seamus Kelleher at 5:00 PM.
The Avalon String Band will also be playing at 5:00 PM, as Jamison with Jon Conklin prepare to serenade guests with Celtic at 6:00 PM.
Remixing some Celtic melodies, DJ Eric Scott Gold will commence at 9:00 PM later that night.

Saturday, March 17th
Under the tent by 11:00 AM, Go Go Gadget will open Saturday celebrations at the Green Parrot.
At 12:00 PM, inside the restaurant, Ray Coleman will be playing, followed by more Celtic music from Seamus Kelleher at 4:30 PM.
Hooligans begin under the tent at 5:00 PM, before DJ Thad takes over at 9:00 PM.

Sunday, March 18th
Closing out the St. Patrick’s Day weekend at the Green Parrot, Ray Coleman will perform inside the restaurant at 11:00 AM.
Secret Service, the final performers of the St. Patrick’s Day at Green Parrot, will perform on the patio at 4:00 PM.

IRELAND – A HISTORY IN SONG is a new and exciting one-man show by Larry Kirwan that combines his 25 years experience leading Black 47 with his parallel careers as playwright, author, journalist and radio host. Through a mixture of story-telling, acting, and singing Kirwan brings Irish history alive with emphasis on The Great Hunger of 1847, Emigration to America, The Celtic Revival, 1916 Uprising, and the recent “Troubles.” You’ll be introduced to and get to the heart of James Connolly, Michael Collins, Countess Markievicz, James Joyce, WB Yeats, Bobby Sands & Bernadette Devlin McAliskey among others.

The show will include classic Kirwan songs such as Black 47, James Connolly, The Big Fellah, extracts from his plays and books, Mr. Parnell, Blood, Hard Times, A History of Irish Music, and Green Suede Shoes in a seamless story that will entertain & educate.

Held on Thursday, March 15th, 2018, the fundraiser show will support the Celtic Cultural Alliance, as the troupe of the Glengarry Bhoys, and the House of Hamill, fuel with their music with all the pride of their Irish ancestry. Doors open at 7:30 PM, commencing with the Celtic instrumentation at 8:00 PM.

Tickets sell for $25 and $35, depending on available seating. Purchasing a ticket in-person will save concert-goers a $6.50 processing fee!

Bright and early at 9:00 AM, on March 17th, the third annual Newtown Shamrock Shuffle 5k will bring together runners and St. Patrick’s Day’s pride. Zipping through the streets, runners and onlookers may appreciate the pageantry all along Sycamore, Jefferson, and Durham Road. At the race’s finish, runners will receive a custom bib, a finisher medal and shirt, as well as an all-access wristband to the festivals at Green Parrot’s St. Patrick’s Day party. Wristbands confer one complimentary drink and food voucher.

Registration for the Newtown Shamrock Shuffle 5K costs $55.
