The Mercantile at Doylestown is an artist-inspired, 25,000 square foot space in the heart of Doylestown. It is an experience-driven, multi-vendor brick and mortar, that will offer exposure to our local artists, small businesses, and boutique food purveyors all year around. The Taste of Doylestown area is centered around Triple Sun Spirits, a local small-batch distillery from Emmaus that has created a tasting room within the space. The Mercantile is a unique and exciting place to shop, create and taste for the entire community and beyond. Brooke Henningsen, Mercantile’s Founder, wanted to create a space for artists to show their work in the midst of the pandemic, when all outdoor fairs were canceled, in a socially responsible way so they could continue to share their creativity with Bucks County. Working alongside her was Ashara Shapiro, Mercantile’s Creative Director, who helped create a visually impactful space that was reflective of the artists within.

It all started when I was 12 and looking for a way to earn money, which is when the idea of balloon twisting came up.  When my Mom was in College she dated a lawyer who was a clown on the side (We can’t say it with a straight face either!), and from him, she learned the very basics.  Later in life, she taught me what she knew, and I attended National Conventions for formal balloon twisting instruction.  And as we like to say, it “ballooned” from there!

3 years later I have been fortunate enough to twist in a lot of amazing places and meet even more amazing kids and parents!  I really love balloon twisting and there truly is no better feeling than watching something that I was able to create bring so much joy to so many people!
