First-day jitters are always normal, but there are plenty of ways to reduce apprehension before the big day. Check out these A+ tips and tricks to help you get organized and ready for the new school year.
- Start getting organized now. The school year always approaches quickly, so start making a list of what you need. This can cover anything from school supplies to back-to-school outfits. Schedule those shopping trips early before items begin to sell out.
- Create a calendar. Whether you prefer a classic paper calendar or a shared online calendar with your loved ones, start punching in those field trips, holidays, sports games and additional important events. Taking some time to lay out what you already know will help keep you and your family organized and on the same page.
- Tackle those school lunches. Not sure what to pack for lunch on school days? Create a list now of nutritious meals that you can easily put together for the weekdays. You can even create a monthly-meal calendar so you know what to pack each day and can always have those ingredients ready.
- Figure out transportation. Taking the bus or driving in? Who’s taking the kids to practice on the first day? Setting aside some time to figure out who’s driving who, and how everyone is getting to their commitments will reduce stress and uncertainty on the first day and beyond. Communicate with your family, and even write it down so everyone is in-the-know.
- Schedule routines. Before the school year, establish bedtimes and wake-up times to ensure you and your student are getting enough sleep to take on each new day. Setting aside time for homework can also create consistency and ensure a healthy work-life balance.
