Jim Worthington, owner of the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) announced that the NAC will donate $1000 each week for all 52 weeks of 2022 to a different charity or non-profit from Bucks County and the surrounding area.

The goal is not only to financially help those in need but to highlight them so other individuals and businesses in the community are motivated to join in as well. The NAC has always led by example to support great causes in the community that are having the greatest impact on the most people.

The inspiration for this initiative came to Mr. Worthington after attending the annual showing of the Christmas classic film “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the historic Newtown Theatre.  He was so moved by the joyful experience of seeing this classic film in such an important historical location that he was moved to make a donation.

Worthington commented, “There was such a feeling of warmth, camaraderie, and goodwill in the theatre that evening. It may have been a combination of holiday spirit and the spirit of the history behind the theatre that made everyone feel connected in a very special way.”

The Newtown Theatre Executive Director, Andy Smith was delighted to hear of the donation and of the year long initiative that this donation was going to kick-off.

The Newtown Theatre just underwent Phase One of renovations, which replaced the hardwood flooring, all the seats on the first floor with new vintage seats and a handicapped entrance and bathroom on the first floor.  The Theatre has retained its historic charm and authenticity and plans to do so throughout Phase Two renovations on the balcony and downstairs bathrooms.

Many folks have asked how they can support the theatre.  There are several ways: go to a movie or special live event at the theatre, rent or use the theatre for a private or corporate event, or donate online at www.TheNewtownTheatre.com.

It is important to keep this iconic landmark of the oldest continuously running theatre in America (since 1906) alive.

It is also important to shine a light on as many equally important causes throughout our community and region.  That is the goal of the 52K in 52 Weeks in 2022 initiative.  If you wish to learn more about this program and to apply to be a recipient of one of the $1,000 donations please visit www.NACHaveaHeart.org/apply.
