Wildberry Gelato from Clusters in New Hope

If you prefer the rich taste of Gelato over other frozen treats, Bucks County just got a whole lot sweeter for you! Not one, but TWO new places carrying gelato opened up over the past couple of months in New Hope & Doylestown.

But first, let's learn a bit about what we're eating. What exactly makes gelato different than ice cream?

Gelato is an Italian frozen dessert dating back to the Roman Empire and ancient Egypt. While it is made with some of the same ingredients as most other frozen dairy desserts- milk, cream, various sugars, flavoring including fruit and nut purees- gelato is made with lower butterfat content and higher sugar content than ice cream.

Another distinguishing characteristic is that while most commercial ice creams in the US are frozen with a continuous assembly line freezer, gelato is frozen very quickly in individual small batches in a batch freezer. This ultimately results in a denser product with more intense flavors.

2) Clusters- Bucks County Caramel Corn, New Hope – After spending many summers down the shore, long-time New Hope resident Linda Sghiatti decided it was time to bring some of the delicious boardwalk goodies to the streets of Bucks County. In addition to a variety of homemade caramel corns made with goodies like Orea cookie crumbs and Reese's Pieces, Clusters offers locally made gelato from the Dol Cice Gelato Company in Yardley. Tip: This place is in an ideal location for a post-Friday night firework treat!
