The holiday season is one of generosity- a time to offer a kind deed to a neighbor for no other reason than doing the right thing. At organizations like the Bucks County Housing Group (BCHG), that spirit of giving lives on all year long. Since the mid 1970’s, BCHG has been assisting Bucks County families and individuals on their journey from homelessness to permanent housing.
While those within the organization work hard assisting those less fortunate in Bucks County, they know that their efforts rely heavily on the participation of the community. In 2012, the Bucks County community did not disappoint. Melissa Mantz of BCHG couldn’t hold back her appreciation for the passionate volunteers,
“YOU are the very heart of our work! YOU make the connections that count! YOU share with your neighbors in need! This support is what sustains us.”
Throughout the year, locals have volunteered time and resources- donating to BCHG’s five shelters & three food pantries; giving backpacks to school children; running food drives; repairing walls; building fences; raking leaves; cooking meals; and so much more. Even now, they continue to work to make the holidays bright for locals in need.

BCHG Backpacks Drive 2012
This dedication led to some major accomplishments. In 2012, BCHG:
- Opened their first Permanent Supportive Housing Program in partnership with St Mary Medical Center
- Dedicated The Foundations Community Partnership Pavilion in May
- Renovated The Milford Square Homeless Shelter
- Provided assistance to local veterans with the newly established Veterans Housing Assistance Program
While the past 12 months were certainly filled with success, there is still lots to be done! Providing free services to families across the county means it takes a lot of time and resources to make BCHG work. Cuts in funding leave BCHG asking for this generous community to dig a little bit deeper and help us keep doing what they do; serving our neighbors in need.
This holiday season, remember to give back. You can learn about ways to volunteer or make a donation to support BCHG. Your support will help your neighbors in need: the hungry and the homeless of Bucks County.
