With inexpensive accommodations and less crowded attractions, the winter is an often overlooked time of year to enjoy day trips and weekend getaway.  Avoid cabin fever this winter and hop in the car for an adventure.

Just a couple hours away lies the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. While the arrival of winter means that most fishing enthusiasts have packed away their tackle boxes; a bit of cold air and water doesn't mean the fish stop biting!

For a fun and successful fishing trip this winter, make sure to:

Bundle up. You have to brave the elements in order to succeed at your winter fishing trip. Pack a knit cap, jacket with a hood, and a face shield to protect you from the wind. As for your undergarments, opt for items with insulation, and don’t forget to pack wool socks to put over your knits.

Scope Out the Best Spot. Colder water means that fish are going to be hunkering down to adjust to the colder conditions, so set out to bridges, underwater rock piles, and shipwrecks. Schools of Striped Bass can be found mainly along channel edges. If you don't have access to a boat, charter one for an Ocean City Striper fishing trip. The pros at Reel Addiction Charters know all of the hot spots and techniques that it takes to have a successful day Striper fishing.

Use the Right Bait. To find the best spot for biting, look for gulls diving for herring and surface swirls. For bait, use clams, eels, frozen bunker, herring, sand worms, or butterfish.

Ocean City, Maryland produces some of the best fishing on the East Coast. The season ends on December 15th, so get out on your boat or reserve your spot on a charter and get those lines in the water.
